The meeting opened with the Invocation read by Ann followed by a scripture reading, Mark 8: 27â€"33 by Enid Thompson. Jennie Goodier read the meditation and all members joined in the prayer. Minutes were read and roll call was answered by 6 members. Jennie Goodier thanked members for the basket of fruit given to her husband. Mary Berry sent a thankyou note along with a donation for the service at her daughter‘s wedding. A donation was also received from Marg Bradley. Business consisted of a report from Etheleen Tye of the Parish council meeting held Sept 10/84. The suggested dates for the rummage sale are Oct. 25, 26, & 27 at St Luke's Hall. (Thurs, Fri & Sat) Grocery boxes for each day will also be available plus a homeâ€"bake sale daily. St Peter's Thanksgiving service will be held on Sept. 23 at 11:00 a.m. Decorating will be done on Saturday, Sept. 22. Kite flying at the park on Sept. 26 followed by a service at St Peter's at 7:00 p.m. The AC‘W is considering taking orders for Christmas puddings. A church plate will be given to Esther Dalyrimple as a welsome gift from the ACW Enis Thompson closed the meeting with a prayer from the Toronto ACW, where she was a member before moving to Seeley's Bay. Refreshments were served by Ann 8: Kelly Morris, thanks extended li‘.’ all. Members were greeted by Gladys Webb, hostess for the evening. President Freda Davies also added her welcome as we returned for fall activities. An excellent devotional by Linda Horsey on the total mission of the church as stated in the Purpose of United Church Women was much appreciated. The purpose is to unite all women and provide a medium for Christian witness, study, fellowship & service. The thankâ€"offering was received and dedicated. The president ran the business meeting following Roll Call which was answered with items from the "Observer". The treasurer's report showed an excellent response to the fund raising activities held since our last meeting. Plans are being made for our Oct. meeting when our guest speaker will be Mr. Victor Holmen, Kingston and our guests will be Lyndhurst & Olivet members. Members were reminded of the Elgin Section Rally to be held in Delta United Church, Sept. 26/84. It is hoped that many will attend. For program, Helen Sweet continued with our study book "Jesus Means Life" referring in part to the difference in our present economic status where people with incomes must contribute to helping those in need, and in our country this help is universal. Refreshments were served by Gladys Webb & Jean Collinson while a social time was enjoyed by all. ATHENS & DISTRICT HOUSING CORPORATION Construction is scheduled to start mid-September on a 20 unit senior citizen apartment building that will cost $663,733.00 Earl E. Covell, General Contracting Ltd. of Rideau Ferry has been awarded the contract recently at the negotiated price. The building will be constructed on a 2.5 acre site in village's South-west corner, just off Charleston lake Road. Ben Cameron, chairman of the Corporation's Board of Directors said the tendered price was higher but the figure quoted was reached after negotiations. The project is fully funded by the Ont. Ministry of Municipal Affairs & Housing under a nonâ€"profit program. The 20 unit building will have 13 one bedroom apartments, two equipped especially for the handicapped and 5 twoâ€"bedroom apartments. Rent will be geared to income for some residents while others will have to pay market rent. There are more than 60 applications for accomodation in the new building and the decision on who to accept will be based on need. The Village of Athens & Townships of Kitley, Rear of Yonge 8: Escott and Rear of Leeds 8: Lansdowne are all participating in the project and each will be given a specified number of apartments. Excavation is expected to start soon and the building should be completed by March, 1985 Totten, Sims 8: Hubicki of Brockville is the architectural and consulting firm being used. J.
