N99 6 MT" LEDS'LANTERN ELGIN U.C.W. Anna Charland chaired the March meeting of the Elgin UCW. This year the World Day of Prayer was held in St. Columbanus Church and Nina Churchill described the service. She said that it was a very touching one, wherein the hope was expressed that people of all Christian denominations would eventually draw closer to one another. Loree Smith gave a report on the Annual Presbyterial Meeting. It was announced there that 1985 is the Year of Youth, the 70th anniversary of the CGIT and that the UCW Conference would be held in Perth on April 2nd and 3rd. Irene Guthrie, Marion Seeley and Katherine Sides presented the worship service. It centred around the idea that even though some are fastidious about spring cleaning their homes, their lives are in need of a cleaning in the spiritual sense. It was said that by looking at our lives and breaking bad habits, replacing them with good ones, by having a clean heart and throwing away negative thoughts, we could become better Christians and happier people. In keeping with our study on Korea, Marjorie Earl showed a film-strip entitled, "Even Though We Are Not Blossoming Now“. This film helped us to better understand 100 years of Protestant witness in South Korea. It showed how Koreans have managed to survive many hardships through the years. Christians there have worked to help the poor and oppressed in spite of oppression by the ruling class. Throughout it all Koreans have managed to retain their sense of humour and a great hope for the future. We should be happy that our Church, along with other Christians, tries to help these courageous, people in their efforts to put their faith into action. It was announced that the Presbytery Executive would meet in Morven, April 29 and that the Woman Alive Conference would be held on May ll at Smiths Falls. Reports were given and plans discussed for various forthcoming events after which lunch was served by Reta Freeman's group. 1% Springll'ime.
