Business from the minutes: Repairsto raftâ€"materials only,$265.00; to dock, materials only-$250.00 Floats will also have to be repaired. It was suggested that the Township be requested to dump a load of stonedust from the pavement to the beach. Recreation Committee will b contacting Jack Rabb re building of a swing set for installation at Community Hall. Styrofoam containers for Barhequ: to be purchased from Canadian Key Fibres at a cost of $33.49 per 200. Washroom installation is to be lo'oked in to. The Recreation committee is to look into early arrangements re the skating rinks next year. Board for 1985: Mr. L. McConville Chairman. The furnace is to be repaired by Cliff‘s Heating. Treasurer was absent thus no report presented. Bills were presented and authorized for payment. It was suggested that all bills exclding heat 8: hydro be presented to the Board for approval. Bills offering discount for early payment to be paid promptly. No commttee reports tabled 8: no new business tabled. Meeting adjourned to reconvene April 10/85 (0 confirmed as PORTLAND UCW President Sylvia French opened the meeting by reading "The nine essentials to a full contented lifeâ€. Monthly reports were given and the quarterly gifts to M&S also. An invitation was received from Delta UCW to attend their Easter Thankoffering meeting on April 10 at 8:00 p.m. The annual Bay of Quinte Conference will be held at St. Paul's United Church, Perth, on April 2 8: 3/85 Worship was under the leadership of group 3 with Betty Bond giving a reading "It must be Spring". The hymn, All things Bright 8: Beautiful was sung. Verna Sled introduced a record, "Treasured Moments", poems given by John Corrigan, reminding us to appreciate life and its experiences. Scripture was read by Jean Peters who also dedicated the offering. A filmstrip "Even Though We are not Blossoming now" showed the history 8! present circumstances of Korea, the country we are studying this year. Verna Sled closed with "Our Daily Prayer". While we haven't been allocated the necessary funds, we are advised to be ready by Aug. lst when the next allocation will be made. Should we get the Aug. allocation we will be building this fall. The Architects are working all out to meet the Aug. deadline. The concept phase has been completed and forwarded to the Ministry for approval. The name selected for the building is: "Big Rideau Village". PORTLAND A.C.W. The ACW of Emmanuel Church held its March meeting at the home of Margaret Stinson with twelve members present. After the devotional, reports and other business the members heard a very interesting talk by Jane Cheong about proposed organization of voluntary visitors to aged and handicapped people who live alone or are in a lonely situation. This service is under the auspices of the VON and is being prepared by Jane working on a partâ€"time basis. There Were 30 contestants representing -South Crosby (SC) and Rideau Centennial (RC) schools. A good crowd was on hand to support and encourage the contestants. Students were judged on delivery. material, language and literary form. The judges were: Brys Scovil, Ann Androvich and Clifford Smith. The prizes in each category were: lst a trophy and $20; 2nd $15; 3rd $10; and 4th $5. I All contestants received a certificate. The lst prize winners in each category will compete in the Zone G-Z competition at Gananoque on March 24. Hearty congratulations are extended to all contestants for their excellent presentations. The experience will be an advantage to them in years to come. Thanks , and appreciation is extended to the School Principals, Teachers and Staff for the excellent cooperation and support. The event came to a pleasant conclusion with the Legion Ladies Auxiliary providing a fine lunch for all. The next general meeting will be held on April 4 and will feature nominations for office.
