page 4 NORTH LEEDS LANTERN â€imtk FHUA Mix‘l/ ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION Br.#207, Delta The regular meeting of Br. #207 was held on May 13 in the Legion Hall with Comrade, Vice President, Glenn Chant aacting as chairman. Minutes and treasurer's reports were read and accepted, all outstanding bills were paid. Correspondence read from Governor General of Canada, Dominion Command, Kidney Foundation and Provincial Command. Reports from Committees - Membership is 65, Service Bureau states 1 case outstanding and that tl‘e Playground equipment for the Township Park had been installed, donations were made to the Kidney Foundation and Girls' Ball Team. Ways and Means Committee reported that Peter Graczal had won the 50/50 draw for April, and that there will be a $400. night in September. A Bullâ€"head supper will be held in June. Building Comm. to fix the front steps and chimney. We are to contract for the garbage to be picked up, grass to be cut on a regular basis. The Ladies Auxiliary joined in for the rest of the meeting, discussing many matters in connection with the Legion. The meeting closed and an hour of comradeship was enjoyed. On May 4 Zone G2 held a Memorial Parade, hosted by Br. 207, Delta, commemorating Victory in Europe. The Parade formed up in front of the Legion Hall, under the direction fo Comrade Barnhart, Sargent at Arms, and Comrade Fred Coates, Parade Marshall. They were led by the City of Brockville Pipe Band, followed by a mass Colour Party from the Zone. The Padre of Delta Branch 207, Comrade Orville Forrester, delivered his message at the Cenotaph, followed with a wreath laying by Zone Commander Comrade Ed Brown. The Paraie returned to the Legion Hall at which time a Plaque was unveiled by Comrade Brown, assisted by Branch President Comrade Dick Bryan, remembering those who lost their lives at Dieppe. The afternoon closed with the Ladies Aux. serving a hot meal. ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION Ladies Aux. Br. #207 The Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Br. #207 Delta held their May meeting in the hall. The usual ritual opening was shared with the Legion members. President F. Sawyer conducted the business meeting. Minutes were read and approved and the financial report given. Comrade L. Burt read the report of The Zone Convention. L. Pearson gave the sports report. We are to cater for the Bowling Banquet on May 25. The Zone Commander is to attend the June meeting. All comrades are encouraged to attend. Meeting closed. -M. Bryan DELTA W.I. ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting was held on April 23, 1985 at the home of Mrs. F Molony. Meeting was called to order by president M. Bryan and all joined in the Opening Ode and the Mary Stewart Collect. A minute of silence was observed in honour of the late Mrs. Laura Russell, 3 longterm and valued member. Mrs. Bryan then read "In Memoriam" by W.H. Robb followed by a cheerful reading "The Miracle of Spring" by L.B. Buckley. Twelve members paid dues during Roll Call. Members were invited to visit Mr. R. Leeder at his newly opened Art Gallery and plans were made for a visit. Mrs. E. Dougal collected Friendship Pennies. Following the President's Annual report, the Election Chairman took the chair and declared all offices vacated. Mrs. H. Gifford then asked for reports from the following: Auditors, Treasurer's and Standing Committees. F. Molony then presented the nominating committee's slate of officers who were duly elected for the new term: Co-presidents-M. Bryan 8: A Talbot, lst Viceâ€"S. Wilson, 2nd Vice-I Goodsell, Sec/treas.- F. Malony. new convenors were appointed for two vacated Standing committees and a general exchange of convenors of committees was made. President M. Bryan returned to the chair and the following business was dealt with: District Annual meeting to be held in Philipsville May 9, registration at 9:30 a.m. Members are to advise M. Bryan by Tues. if they plan to attend. Anniversary celebrations commemorating Delta W.I.'s organization on July 10, 1910 are to be observed. A committee was named to plan arrangements. M. Bryan resigned from further press reporting 8: I. Roberts agreed to take over this position. May meeting will be a Planning meeting to be held May 21/85 The program was an exchange of plants which was enjoyed by all. Meeting adjourned and refreshments were served. M. Bryan won the hostess gift and LRobert conveyed the groups thanks to the two hostesses. DELTA U.C.W. President Irma Chant welcomed members of the Delta UCW to the hall for the May meeting. A very impressive memorial service, in memory of a valued member â€" Mrs. Laura Russell - was conducted by Mrs. V. Morris. A moment of silence was observed followed by a verse and memories of Mrs. Russell. Mrs. Chant Opened the worship service with the hymn "Happy the Home When God is There". Mrs. L. Henderson read the scripture Proverbs 31, followed by prayer. Mrs. Chant then read an article on Mother's Day and Family Week. Roll Call was answered by 9 members and l visitor with 17 home visits being made during the month. Mrs. M. Sweet and Mrs. V. Barcley were welcomed back. The collection was, received and dedicated. The fun offering of 1 cent for each tooth was also collected.Minutes were read and approved. Again this year there is to be a Bakeless Bake Sale, donations to be brought to the September meeting. It was decided that the UCW will have stoles made for the choir, in memory of Mrs. Russell. Mrs. L. Pearson is to buy the material and make them. A thank you note from Howard and Ward Russell for thememorial donation to our fund was read. Several members expressed thanks for cards and treats. Mrs. Chant thanked the Social Committee for their refreshments. All enjoyed a lunch provided by Mrs. A. Jacques. ‘ â€"M. Bryan DELTA OLD STONE MILL The Delta Mill Society is pleased to announce that the Old Stone Mill is open now for the summer. There is a student curator in charge who will conduct tours.
