Meeting opened with "O Canada" and the Ode. Shirley Wilson, secretary for the District conducted Roll call. A presentation was made to Susan Doherty for her interesting essay "What about our Water?" She was accompanied by her mother and Mr. Rutherford, principal of Rideau Vista School. Mrs. Teresa George gave the welcome and address with reply by Kathryn Scott of Chaffey's Lock W.I. She extended an invitation for the 1986 District Annual in Chaffey's Lock The President's report was given, followed by the minutes, treasurer's report and auditor's report. Mrs. Knapp gave her annual report. She explained the logistics of the Provincial Board meetings and brought along embematic scalves, spoons, etc. Her interesting and informative talk closed with a poem written by our astronaut Frank Borman and quoted the cliche "the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world". Mrs. Wayte issued an invitation to the Fall Convention to be held in Napanee. Reports from all standing commitees were presented. The Memorial Service was given by Delta Branch accompanied by K. Scott who sang "In the Garden". Philipsville Branch served a lovely lunch after which a most interesting history of the District was presented by Mrs. T. Sheridan 8: Mrs. H. Gifford. This revealed a surprising number of projects over 75 yeras of Institute work. Mrs. Knapp conducted election of officers. A Resolution was brought forward re parking for the handicapped; Tweedsmuir history was given by Marion Stone and a singâ€"song was conducted by K. Scott. Guest speaker for the afternoon was Jean Riddell, Rural Organization Specialist, who gave some excellent advice on preparing reports emphasizing agriculture. Mrs. Miriam Bryan presented her with some beautiful books following her presentation. Inâ€"coming President Mary Sutcliffe will continue to have the services of secretary Shirley Wilson who is retaining that position Several door prizes were awarded and the meeting closed with "The Queen" RIDEAU RIDGE RIDERS Rounding out the season: OFSC convention was held at Sault Sainte Marie April 12, 13 8: 14. Main piece of information was Trail permit prices will remain at $10.00 per machine for club members and $20.00 per machine for non-members. Sandy Purdie & Merv Gard, club delegates to the convention gave their reports at dinner dance May 4/85 Trail boss Peter Myers advised that an engine for the Alpine has been found and has been rebuilt. Hoepfully this will get us through another season or two. Membership fees for next season will remain the same as in past season, i.e. Join before Dec. 1/85 single fee - $9.00 Family membership - $12.00, students between 16 and 18 - $3.50 After Dec. 1/85 rates rise to: single-$12.00, Family - $15.00 with students remaining at $3.50. Will all members holding trail Wardens badges and I.D. cards please return them to Sandy Purdie, Don Williams, Merv Gard or Peter Myers. A Trail Warden's course will‘ be held in the fall and new badges and I.D. cards will be issued.
