"If Men Played Cards as Women Do" written by George S. Kaufman, a light comedy highlighting differences between the sexes. the participants, their and the setting was decidedly masculine, the conversation was not. Picture if you will, 4 men seated around a table for their weekly poker game, discussing new recipes, current fashion trends and the latest gossip. Under the watchful eye of director Tom Scovil, 14 yr. old John Murphy made “535 the While mannerisms his stage debut as the host for the poker game welcoming his poker buddies. Marc, expertly portrayed by Bob Taylor, Bob, played by Mark VanLuven & George played by Allan Jensen. "Yes, Dear", a touching tender comedy by Warren Graves, allowed us entrance into the private world of John & Marie Grant, a well-toâ€"do middle aged couple faced with the unnerving prospect of their oldest child turning 21.. Karen Taylor & Thomas Scovil were superb in their roles as Mr. & Mrs. Grant, sharing that comfortable intimacy of marriage. They allowed us to witness their love, their insecurities and that gnawing fear of growing old that suddenly hits when you realize that your children are adults now. Leanne Dier played their daughter, a young woman on the verge of adulthood, who is anxious to enter the adult world but a little afraid to leave the warmth and security of childhood. It was truly an excellent play that really involved the audience for many could share & sympathize with the plight of the Grant family. Interested parties will be pleased to know that work has started On a few new projects for this summer and late fall. Watch the Lantern for further details. K.
