‘Ww 77v»<v . _.E. - REMEMBRANCE DAY SERVICES 1985 Rideau Lakes Branch No 231 will conduct Remembrance Day Services at Elgin and Portland on Monday, Nov. 11th. As we were unable to engage a hand there will not be a parade. Elgin: Form up at the Cenotaph at 10:45 a.m. Portland: Form up at the Cenotaph at 12:00 noon. Following the services there will be an open house at the Portland Community Hall. Everyone is invited to share in a light lunch and social hour. The South Crosby and Portland Volunteer Fire Departments, Scouts, Cubs, Guides and Brownies are invited to participate. LET US REMEMBER The next legion meeting will be held on Nov. 7th. The District G Commander will attend this meeting topresent a number of awards. PORTLAND A.C.W. The October meeting of the Anglican Church Women was held on Oct. 10 in the Portland Community Hall with 16 members, 2 visitors and seventeen ladies from the United Church Women, Portland present. Pres. Barbara Bakker, welcomed everyone and opening prayers were repeated in unison. Anne Mclnrue and Claire Myers conducted the devotions. The Sept. minutes were read and approved. Correspondance consisted of "Thank You" notes from Jill Baker and Kaye Levy - also an invitation to attend a Leeds- Grenville area meeting of the A.C.W. in Prescott, Oct. 16th. An invitation was received to attend a workshop "Enjoying your Senior Years" on Oct. 29th in the Presbyterian Church, Smiths Falls, sponsored by the V.O.N. Lanarkâ€"Leeds 8: Grenville District Health Council. Money was given to our Sunday School to start their year off. Anne is to write the next letter to Sonia our adopted girl in Bolivia. Treasurer's report showed a substantial balance. The meeting closed with prayer. , ‘ Pictures were then shown on "A Glimpse of Enchanted Japan" - Spring, Summer, Fall & Winter. A social hour was then enjoyed. The table was beautiful with fall flowers. Sylvia French extended a vote of thanks to us from the United Church Women. Harlem-Chantry U.C.W. met in the church Oct. lst at 2 p.m. Mrs. Alice Campbell, president of the month welcomed the members and opened the meeting with a poem. Nancy Wykes conducted the worship service. Clara Townsend read a paper on "Thanksgiving" prepared by Marion Hutchings. Roll call was answered by 14 members with a Thanksgiving verse. Minutes were read and approved and the offering was received and dedicated. Marion Seeley reported on the rally held at Seeley's Bay. Correspondance and business were dealt with. 18 hospital and 30 home calls were made to the sick and shutins. 15 books were read. Members sang "Happy Birthday" to Marion Kitson and 2 birthday cards were to be sent to Amy Hutchings. Mrs. & Mrs. Carmen Trotter were to be remembered with cards on their 60th anniversary.
