page 4 NORTH LEEDS LANTEIH DELTA LEGION Branch #207 The regular meeting of Branch 207 was held on June 10th with Pres. Richard Bryan presiding. Minutes and treas. reports were read and accepted. All outstanding bills were paid. Kim Vincent won the 50/50 draw for May. Repairing the steps and money making projects were discussed. A Ham and Bean supper is planned for July and a Bullhead supper for the Fall. A donation was made to the Barrie Disaster Fund. The Ladies Aux. joined in for the rest of the meeting. Officers for 1985-86 were installed by Zone Comm. Ken Fulford. They are: Pres. Glenn Chant; lst Vice Ralph Halladay; 2nd Vice Gary Raison; Secr. Harry Vollick; Treas. Ron Morris and Sgt-at-arms G.W. Winegarden. Past Zone Comm. Jack Currie was present as a witness and guest. On behalf of the Legion, Pres. Chant spoke a few words and presented Comd. Richard and Miriam Bryan with a telephone in appreciation for their work. They are moving to British Columbia in the near future. Comd. Ken Fulford closed the meeting. An hour of comradeship and lunch followed. DELTA W.I. The final meeting of the season was held June 18, at the home of Shirley Wilson. 16 attended, including a guest, Eva Curtis and District pres. Mary Sutcliffe. All enjoyed a Pot-luck luncheon before the opening of the meeting in the usual fashion. Roll call was answered with a response to "What community problem would you like to have solved?" A repeated "problem" addressed the clearing of the corner lot in Delta and the enhancement of this by placing plants and possibly park benches on the site. This was placed as a motion and Council is to be consulted for permission and assistance to accomplish this. Minutes and correspondence were read. A meeting on June 26/85 at Philipsville proved interesting at which new rules and regulations were discussed. These will change the aims of the W.I. from the original purpose of educating rural women as there are now so many avenues open for learning in today‘s world. The "In Memoriam" Resolution will be presented at the District meeting for approval. The Motto was presented and all were interested in the Leeds East meeting where the Brockville Mayor spoke on youth, their problems and the need to get them involved in worthwhile projects. Suggestions were made re our 75th Anniversary. Nothing has been decided but a bus trip is being considered. Mrs. Sutcliffe spoke briefly on internal and external relations, urging regular contact between sister groups. The meeting ended with a farewell tribute to Miriam Bryan who has served the W.I. and other local organizations faithfully during her years in Delta. All conveyed their wishes for a happy and successful life in B.C. I Robert DELTA UNITED CHURCH SUNDAY SCHOOL GRADUATION The Sunday School Graduation exercises at Delta United Church were held on June 16th. The congregation enj°Y9d two special anthems, "As Youth Goes Marching By" by the senior choir and "I've Got the Joy" by the junior choir. Mr. Enoch Kerr delivered a message emphasizing what an important role obedience plays as we grow up. The three division teachers, William Morris, Sherron White and Joan Halladay were assisted by Mr. Kerr in presenting diplomas and small gift to 28 students. Mr. Morris also presented 12 children with perfect attendance awards. The Superintendent and staff recognized Glenn and Irma Chant for their untiring efforts in helping with the church youth and presented them with a plaque. The children enjoyed their annual party following the service in the Sunday school room. A vote of thanks goes to Joan Halladay, William Morris, Florence Pratt, Lorna Pearson, Betty Kitson, June Greenhorn, Irene Goodsell and Sherron White. Sunday school will resume Sept. 8 and Junior Choir on Sept. 6th. DELTA U.C.W. The ‘Delta UCW meeting was held June 12th with Pres. Irma Chant opening with a Spring poem. There were 16 members and 1 guest present. Mildred Sweet was in charge of worship and the theme was "Go Tell". The offering was received and dedicated. Business consisted of a notice from our Pres. concerning the Fall Rally which will held at Seeley's Bay on Sept. 25. Notes from the executive meeting held at Morven were read. The Friendship Secr. presented Miriam Bryan with a gift as she is moving to- Kelowna, B.C. The Seer. Treas. distributed decorative envelopes to be returned in Sept. for our Bake-less Bake Sale.
