JANUARY & FEBRUARY... My Kind Of Months! Only another "would-beâ€"writer" would understand my love of January and February! I get to write "filler"! (That's the unimportâ€" ant trivia used to fill "white space" in newspapers). The first two months of the year are always "light" on news as community activities and group organizations are just getting into the swing of things. News items are scarce and even some of our advertisers take a much deserved break (or do the annual stocktaking chores). So I get to write...."fi11er". Several topics come to mind and, as each one is headed appropriately and carefully assigned PL at its conclusion, you have the option of reading with interest or, (my feelings will not be hurt) skipping to the next item. Birthdays We all have them...and they do come annually, unless you were born on February 29. ...and they usually include gifts and 'a celebration.... at least that‘s what we hope! Irecently read an interesting article by Tom Harpur of the Toronto Star. He expressed his concern about our present preoccupation with "aging". He had a lot to say about the fact that we tend to make our older citizens feel even older, by constantly harping on how many there would soon be...treating them as if they were entering their second child-hood, and removing many elements of their "humanism" strictly because of their age. He went on to say that age or aging is an exciting process...and with this I totally agree. Many people laugh at me when I say I look forward to growing old...not in mind but in years. Just look at the things you can get...and get away with! I'll have a pension....Our mortgage will be paid off....and the kids too!(paid off gthat is)» I won't have to do anything I '5; don't want to...because "I'm too old, frail, forgetful or any combination there-of". I can be as grumpy and as mean as I like...it's simply because "she's old!" I won't be expected to remember names, dates or even faces...because I'll be entering senility. I can pretend not to hear as everyone knows old people grow deaf!!! Offer advice when in your prime and you are thought to be a pushy, NORTH LEEDS LANTERN page 7 knowâ€"it-all....add a few years and either you become the voice of experience or ‘ . you are a doddemg old fool! The Township of South Crosby My kids will have to lend me money...what a change! Women's Lib be d....ed ... everyone will carry my parcels and open doors for me...if they don't I'll tell them straight out what rude little devils they are! It's going to be fun...and I'm getting there fast. Little things don't bother me that much anymore. I think I care more about people than things. Yesterday is not as important as tomorrow. I really don't mind if everyone doesn't love me so long as they realize I am alive! What my kids do is finally becoming their business... and is not going to prevent me from getting my sleep. I have just as much energy, a clearer mind on some matters, an opinion on almost everything and I really do want to leave my mark on the 613-359-5830 Listed below are the dates for council meetings for 1986: Monday January 6th Monday January 20th Monday February 3rd Monday February 17th world, (even Elgin will do!)
