TOWNSHIP OF SOUTH CROSBY COUNCIL NOTES AUGUST 20th, 1985 Second regular Council meeting of the month was held at the municipal office, with all members present. Motions were passed adopting the minutes of meeting held on August 6th and 7th; giving approval of Road Voucher No. 15, in the amount of $4,561.05; approving payment on office accounts in the amount of $90,070.00; giving approval on Land Severance File Numbers Bâ€"276-85 and Bâ€"Z79-85; rejecting application for amendment to the Official Plan and Zoning By-Law. Correspondence received concerning the Gypsy Moth was considered by Council, Letter from Ministry of Health and Welfare advising that Old Age Security Pension will remain fully indexed to increases in the Consumer Price Index was acknowledged by Council. Motion of adjournment was passed. SEPTEMBER 3rd, 1985 The first regular meeting of the month opened at 7:30 p.m. at the Municipal Office, with all council members present. Resolution was passed to adopt the minutes of meetings held on August 20th and 29th. Motions were passed approving Road Voucher no. 16 in the amount of $49,352.90; approving payment on office accounts, in the amount of $173.85. Replacement of culverts, maintenance and repair to township vehicles was discussed by Road Superintendent and council members. Council acknowledged the resignation of Mr. Gordon Simpson as Road Superintendent. Mr. Simpson has agreed to continue to act in this capacity until such time as a new Road Superintendent is hired. Council also acknowledged the fact that Miss Valerie Sly has enrolled in the ClerkJD'easurers course at St. Lawrence College, Kingston. Reeve, Everton Strong advised council members that he would not be seeking the position of Reeve, at the upâ€"coming election in November. Minutes of the previous meeting were adopted. Motions passed: approving Road Voucher #17 for $36,986.19; to petition Ministry of Transportation and Communication for interim subsidy on road expenditures; approving payment on office accounts for $384.02; to write off business taxes due to said business no longer being in operation; giving approval for land severance; giving approval for the closing of an unopened road. Road report covered work being done and disussion re maintenance of roads and vehicles. By-laws were enacted and passed: approving tile drainage loan; to officially name Rideau Lakes Union Library; to allow CEO of RLUL to call first meeting of new Board. Proclamation made Food Day. Following discussion, it was decided: not to place a referendum question re funding of Separate Schools on ballot this fall; to start interim tax billing in 1986 Meeting adjourned to reconvene Oct. 1/85 supporting World ELGIN HORSESHOE CLUB On Sunday, Sept. 8/85 the Elgin Horseshoe Club held the season's Play-offs. Winners of this season were: Garry Merriman lst; Dewey Smith 2nd; Doug Burt 3rd. Winners in Aâ€"division Doubles were: Bernie Burch 8: Doug Burt Winners in B-division Doubles were: Bob Wills 8: Herbie Carr. On Sept. 15/ 85 the Club held a season-end steak barbeque supper for all players and their wives. Trophys were presnted to the season play-off winners. Haskins Motors presented a large trophy to the club and two small trophys to the winners of the A-division doubles winners. Bea's Flowers presented a lovely large trophy to the club for the B-division. A big thank you to Keith Haskins and bea Summers for their generous donation of these trophies. The club donated 5 small trophies which were presented by Vice-President Pep Burt. Bea Summers and Yvonne Gard presented club statistician Gary Merriman a hand-made Horseshoe, covered in ivy and flowers in appreciation of the extra work looking after the points system for both the season and the tournament. bea and Yvonne had also had a lovely horseshoe shaped cake made to celebrate the season. Vice president Pep Burt presented Yvonne, Bea and Cindy Merriman each with a gift for their work with the club during the season. A special thank you to Gene Patterson and Mac Standen for the marvellous job done on the steaks which received many compliments. A good time was had by all. See you next season - Pres. Mervin Gard Elgin Softball Association ANNUAL HALLOWEEN DANCE ELGIN U.C.W. The Elgin U.C.W. resumed their regular meetings beginning with a potluck supper on September 10. Their special guests were ladies from the Olivet U.C.W. Marjorie led the Worship Service, assisted by May and Jean. Phyllis Connell introduced a panel of three - Rev. Seeley, Mr. Bob Waterfield and Mr. Clifford Smith. These men were chosen by Presbytery as a team to visit Organizations which receive money from the Mission and Service Fund. Their task was to find out how well the money was being used and ,to suggest whether or not funding should be continued. The panel presented the facts in a most interesting way and provided the ladies with a much better understanding of the excellent work that is done as a result of M 8: S support. Before the Olivet ladies left they were presented with a cheque for their Building Fund. A business meeting was held during which it was announced that the Fall Rally would be held in Seeley's Bay United Church on Sept. 25. It was also decided that our Fall Bazaar would take place on Nov. 6. Various letters were read and decisions made after which the meeting was adjourned.
