REAR OF LEEDS AND LANSDOWNE RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING The recreational meeting was held at the Township Office on May 27, with five members present. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. It was passed that Doug Mainse purchase weed killer and spray the edges and level the track at the Sweet's Corners School. Three members of the Instructional Winter Swim Program Committee were welcomed to the meeting. They gave an update on the progress of their committee. This committee has been very dedicated and have three buses with children and parents who travel to Kingston for swimming instructions once a week for ten weeks from January to April. The Recreational Committee have funds set aside for this swim program if they should need financial help. The staff have been selected for the Kendrick's Park Day Camp. The first session commences July 7 â€" July 25, second session July 28 â€" August 15. Registration forms may be picked up at the Township Office or from Jane Billings, Seeley's Bay and Chuck Galway. When the forms are filled out, please return to Jane Billings. Monies have been a110cated to the Kendrick's Day Camp to help cover their expenditures. There was some discussion re the North Leeds Soccer Association. Registration fees will remain the same and monies have been allocated to the association. The needs of recreation for the youth of the Township is being taken care of; the Recreational Committee are now giving some though to our Senior Citizens. A member of the committee will be in touch with members of both Seeley's Bay and Lyndhurst Senior Citizens to get their views on the needs of recreational facilities or programs for the seniors of the Township. At our next meeting in June more thoughts and plans for Volunteer Appreciation Night for October 27th will be discussed. The next regular meeting will be held on June 24th at 7:30 p.m. LYNDHURST UCW The June Lyndhurst in Morton from the meeting of the UCW was held Hall. Guests Lyndhurst ACW NORTH LEEDS LANTERN and the Olivet UCW were present. The president, Marion Warren, welcomed everyone and opened the meeting with 'the reading of a poem. Gladys Major was in charge of the devotional. Her topic was native concerns. Mrs. Major had an interesting reading and a skit pertaining to her topic. The devotional closed with the singing of "Kum Ba Yah". Mary Townsend our guest speaker, James Raffan, who had spent a summer on Broughton Island among the Inuit. His slides and commentary on his visit there were very interesting. Lunch was enjoyed by all. introduced BETA SIGMA PHI Eta Tau Chapter Our group has had a pleasant and productive year, with meetings held twice a month. Members have presented a variety of programs including a number of‘ slide; film travelogue presentations, craft demonstrations and discussion on such topics as the variety and benefits of leisure activities, financial planning and colour appreciation. Social outings included a theatre evening in Kingston, a Christmas dinner evening with our friends in the Beta Sigma Phi Exemplar Chapter, a February tobogganning party and Founders Day hosted by the Brockville Chapters April 30th. The main service projects were provision of Christmas gifts for children in need and the April Red Cross Blood Donor Clinic. Service projects have been funded by a Fall 50-50 draw and a Spring Value Book Sale. We all appreciate the community support given to our f undraising efforts. New members Bonnie Bakker and Gail Clark were recently formally welcomed with a Pledge Ritual meeting. Our group will continue to meet informally through the summer. Plans for a number of Fall activities, including another Fashion Show, are taking form and regular meetings will begin again in September. Theresa Stewart opened our business meeting with everyone saying the Lord's Prayer. There were 25 members present and l visitor. The minutes were read and approved. Correspondance: there was a letter from the Legion re how to open the doors in case of emergency; a "New Agenda" put out by the Senior Citizens which keeps the seniors well informed. The treasurer's report was adopted as read. We have been invited to Sandy & Doreen Gray's cottage for a potluck dinner. It was decided to have it on the 4th Friday in July. Ernest Grigsby informed us that we were invited to go on a 1000 Island boat tour June 17th. Everyone joined in singing Happy Birthday to Margaret Grigsby. At our next business meeting we will decided how we are going to spend the money from the quilt raffle. The meeting adjourned. Lunch was served followed by a few games of cards. The objectives of Weed Alert are to assemble in formation on problem weeds as they now exist in the province and to identify and record new weeds as they appear. Weeds suspected of being triazine resistant can also be tested. Responsibility for the field work of the program rests with the summer students working with the Soils and Crops Specialists.
