RIDEAU NOTES Campaign '86 is over. The speeches have been spoken, the ballots crossed and counted. Students at Rideau District High School have made their choice and elected a new Student Council Executive for 1986-87. Assisting President Pam McCulloch, are: John Cooper, Viceâ€"Pres.; Jennifer Carbino, Secretary; Lynn McGregor, Treasurer; Halina Skoryna, Social Convenor; Cory Haskins, Publicity; Sue Whalen, Girls' Athletic Rep; and Scott Wykes, Boys' Athletic Rep. Eight Rideau physâ€"ed students recently returned from a two day endurance test on the Rideau Lakes. Patti Sly, Terri Haskin, Dave Johnson, McCulloch, Julie students from 1 1 and l 2 by Phys. Ed. grades their way in canoes Lake , where out. The included around they twelve mile two portages, Davis Locks, In the 1986 Canada-wide grade 13 Descartes Mathematics Competition, the team from Rideau District High School placed first among the schools from Leeds and Grenville, and fourth in Eastern Ontario, Zone 66. Stuart McEwen was top scorer from Rideau with a 50, which gave him place 6th out of Full Colours flying-Branch 491, Seeley's Bay SEELEY'S BAY LEGION June 14th was a gala evening for Branch 491. It was our ‘PaSt‘ 'President's dinner and honours and' awards night. Guests of honour included Reeve and Mrs. Roy Greenhorn, District Commander and Mrs. Elwin Brown, Ladies Auxillary District Commander Mary Battams, Zone Commander Ken Fulford, Deputy Commanders, Past Commanders and Representatives from many branches within our district. Highlights of the evening were the presentation of two honour roll boards to this Branch by Ladies' Aux. HOLSTEIN SHOW CAT SHOW and the Veteran's Association JULY 28, 29 and 30th lN't'IIIN‘NN' unnuflng HEAVY HORSE SHOW DOG SHOW HORSE DRAWING CONTEST Korean President Velma Turner, the presentation of a flag to the Ladies' Aux. by Edith Stanley in memory of her husband the late George Stanley and the presentation of the following awards: Betty Sly and June Smith - past officers medal by Ladies Aux. District Comm. Mary BAttams, to Russ Thompson and Joe Turner - past officers medal by Ken Fulford, To branch pres. Garry Hunter - a past Pres. medal, to Don Charbonneau a certificate of merit and to Bill Nolan a Life Membership. Secretaries Betty Sly and Len White ford received well deserved bouquets Ed Keech, George Moulton, Ron Pyne and Scott Smith, 10, accompanied Department Head, Mark Timpany, paddled from Sand Lake in Elgin to Hart camped trip one and a crossing of Opinicon Lake. 126 in belated National Secretaries Week. This enjoyable social evening. DEDICATION DAY On May 24th, Veterans 12, Kingston, Ontario, invaded Seeley's Bay with full colours NORTH LEEDS LANTERN competitors from Zone 66. Chris Pritchard placed 10th with a score of 44. Both McEwen and Pritchard received Certificates of Distinction for their showing in this year's competition. It was the efforts of McEwen and Pritchard, combined with the scores of other team members, Pennie Babcock and .Iason Walker, and the coaching of Rideau Math Department Head, Norah Wilson, which enabled Rideau to do so well in the competition. Grade 13 student, Martha Kenney, travelled to Brock University in St. Catherines, to compete in the Provincial French Contest. Kenney was accompanied by Rideau French Teacher, Donna Dean. recognition of was followed by an the Association, Korean Unit flying. Following a short parade, a plaque remembering the Korean War was unveiled by Unit 12 Pres. George Richardson and Branch 491 Pres. Garry Hunter. This was followed by of dedication and a speech by the president of the Ontario Korean Veterans Association, Don Randall. 1986 28 TUESDAY featuring BEEF SHOW BABY SHOW 29 OFFICIAL OPENING c. PARADE WESTERN HORSE SHOW GRANDSTAND SHOW featuring WAYNE ROSTAD prayers ltor Greenhorn, Mrs. President Garry Hunter, Aux. Aux. and the page 35 Thursday was Awards Day at Rideau. Barb Klein Gunnewick and Dan Burns coâ€"hosted the general assembly, which was organized by school Librarian, Mike Drouillard. Students Karen Carbino, Tim Best and Christian Michaud received their senior academic letters; these are awarded to Year 4 students with 18 of their 27 credits at 80% or above. The Student Council Trophy, awarded for most valuable contribution to council, went to Sherry Cooper and Wes Coleman. The Principal's Trophy was won by Pennie Babcock. This trophy which has not been awarded since 1982, is presented to a student who, by exceptional contribution to school life, wins three Senior School letters.
