Festival of Music Library Benefit performance: A group of library supporters have organized a benefit program to be held July 26 in Portland Community Hall. Local andloutâ€"of-town professional singers and musicians will perform, presenting some old and some original selections. This should be an excellent and entertaining evening. Tickets are limited due to size of Hall, and cost will be $4.00. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact Tom or Joanne Sled, in Portland. All proceeds are to be given to the Rideau Lakes Union Library Board. The new plastic library cards are being distributed as patrons visit their branch library. The cards are issued for a three year period and are free to all residents of the four participating municipalities. Charge for replacement of the new card (if lost or destroyed) will be 50¢ with the initial card issued free to new and old members alike. Magnifier Sheets, are still in much demand. A new order has been received. and "sheets" may be ordered through any branch of the Union. At a recent Leeds 8: Grenville Librarians workshop, several visiors purchased one of these aids for use in their libraries. Elgin & District Lions Club purchased the first ten for free distribution to sight handicapped residents. The Board has purchased and distributed an additional 40 sheets at the $5.00 (cost) price. Residents from around the Union have purchased them for personal use with the Telephone Directory. They are ideal for reading maps...and "seeing the small print“ in legal documents.
