Staff are undergoing teaching sessions in the operation of basic programs and, in September, the Union will go "on~line" for lnterlibrary Loan. This system is being fully funded by the Ministry as a means to upgrade and speed ILL transactions. The Union is one of the smallest libraries to be placed in the program. The aim of the new system is to permit small libraries with good collections, to become "lenders" as well as borrowers. A "Loop" of 5 other libraries will be "searched" by the computer for requested material and the library holding such material will then send to the requesting library. It is expected that the Union's fiction collection will be a prime lending area as our new titles are available much faster than larger institutions. Through the courtesy of OLS Rideauâ€"Ottawa, a microfiche viewer is on loan for the summer in the Elgin Branch. This enables patrons, especially those researching genealogical records, to review the material locally. The library also has microfiche of the holdings of the‘ Ontario Archives. Reaching out: with service has also been possible through OLS-Rideau.
