NORTH LEEDS LANTERN Nursery School Opens for Another Year Monday, September 8th will be a very exciting day for some very lucky little ones. That is the day that the Elgin and District Co-op Nursery School holds registration for its new school year. Parents and youngsters will find the school, located in Elgin United Church, open for inspection. Children and parents alike will have an opportunity to meet our able teacher, Mrs. Ruth Brown and her dynamic assistant Mrs. Barb Neff. They will also have time to explore the various play areas, investigate the numerous activity centres and discuss the programme with the teachers. Classes will start Wed. Sept. 10 with juniors aged 21/2 - l’é years meeting 9-1 1:30 a.m. and seniors 3‘/z - 5 years meeting 1:00-3:30 p.m. We all look forward to another school year with its field trips and special days sprinkled among the regular programme of learning experiences, social interactions and just plain fun. Our first members meeting will be held Mon. Sept. 22 at 8:00 p.m. Anyone wishing additional information regarding the school or its programme, can call the school, during school hours at 359â€"5166, or Peggy Bond at 272-2252 just about SIMPSON MASONIC LODGE Each year, the members of Simpson Masonic Lodge of Newboro administer and present a number of awards and scholarships to worthy students and graduates of Rideau District High School. Our major awards are the Myers Scholarships, founded on the intent and bequest of the late John Myers of Portland. These three scholarships have a value of $700. each and granted to Rideau graduates pursuing studies in university. community college and agricultural college respectively. This year's dedicated recipients at the recent Graduation exercises were: Pennie Babcock, Jenny Lemke, and David Berry. Initiated this year is a fourth Myers Scholarship. This is granted to one of last year’s recipients, who has shown particular excellence in their postâ€"secondary studies and in the opinion of our Bursary Committee especially warrants our continued encouragement. We are most pleased to announce that this extended award will be received by Joanne Diote who is attending St. Lawrence College. The officers and members of Simpson Lodge sincerely hope that the Myers Awards will encourage and assist the pursuit of excellence in education and fulfilment page 7 any time. in life. This will be an honour and tribute to the man and family that so generously made these awards possible. In addition, we have for many years presented a number of minor awards to deserving students of the Technical and the Special Education disciplines of Rideau District High School.
