McManus 8: A. Greenhom Finally, a Rabies Clinic is now being held in Bastard & S. Burgess. The Veterinarian Association now handles these clinics. Only one is scheduled per township, therefore the place chosen for this township was the Municipal Building, Chantry. Time and date will be announced when the Association and the County have completed negotiations. The long suffering victims of the Delta Gulf Oil spill may have noticed activity in the field across from the T. Connell Antique business. The plans as outlined at the special meeting are being implemented. We hope this project will bear fruit quickly. Our excellent waste disposal record suffered a reversal as a result of a few persons who unthinkineg violated the regulations. Refuse was dumped at the Portland site and ignited when the site was closed and no attendant on duty. Unfortunately the wind was blowing toward nearby residences. This resulted in the township receiving a personal visit from a representative of the Ministry of Environment who issued a strong warning that a second offence would result in action being taken against the Township. Very few Townships receive the quality of service at such low cost to the taxpayer as is provided in Bastard & S. Burgess. Dumps are open, with an attendant on site, five days per week from 9:30a.m. to 5:30 p.m. It is 0â€"1in legal to use the dump when the attendant is on site. Delta is open Monda_y, Thursday 8: Saturday. Portland is open Tuesday, Friday 8: Saturday. Only if a citizen accepts his/her responsibility can we be assured of waste disposal sites within our Township. A draft plan for meeting of emergencies within the municipality has been produced by one of the council members and is currently in the hands of the other members and the Fire Chiefs for consideration and comment. A provincially sponsored seminar on Community Planning is to be held in Kingston, Sept. 16, 17 8: 18. Some members of your council will attend. At present, Bastard 8: S. Burgess does not have a Procedural Bylaw. Steps are being taken to rectify this situation and one should be in place early in the fall. The summer has been extremely busy for council members and staff alike....but we're still enjoying the challenge!
