2 NORTH LEEDS LANTERN October....the month that all avid sports fans love...and the rest of us learn to hate. If ever my marriage was in danger of break-down, it would never be closer than during this particular month of the year....every year! Whoever designed sports schedules must have been slightly sadistic or grossly insane. Have you ever tried to get control of the T.V. set to watch an excellent series on P.B.S. during October..? If you have, then you know what I mean. When hoekey, football AND the World Series all overlap, cracks can appear in the most solid relationship. To express joy when a game (World Series) is rained out, while giving temporary relief, is E the thing to do...and l have learned very quickly that all it does is put off the inevitable. They're going to play it out no matter whatllll Overtime games can create an additional pressure, especially if company is due to arrive and the "sports nut" is still lounging in his scrubbies.... Or perhaps a dinner engagement awaits...and the game is going into the bottom of the 19th innings! Hamburger again! Oh, how I wish my name was Cosby! Lets vote now for a whole month of Cosby shows...in October 1987. At least it gave "us" some hope...but not much else! Perhaps, if there are enough like-minded folks out there, we could plan an "October getâ€"away" next year! It's got to be that or buy another T.V.! Summer sees an increased demand as our "summer residents" join our readership. Usually, October is the month we reduce copies as we presume many of our "seasonal" residents have returned to their own home areas. Apparently, more and more are staying a little longer(even with the wet weather this year).0ur automatic reduction created many problems for our local post offices and personnel as many residents were unable to acquire a copy of the Lantern.... He apologize...and this month we have attempted to remedy the problem, printing an additional 200 copies.
