NORTH LEEDS [ANIERN 23 Rideau Lakes Union LIBRARY NEWS Most people presume the library is a quiet, calm and rather gentile place to work....well, many were in for a surprise as they visited the South Crosby Branch of the Union this past month. witnessed Collen Little Several patrons the secretary Monette and Pat "constructing", "erecting" or otherwise "putting together the new computer desk unit. While we are presumed to be "readers", no-one ever told me we had to be part engineer and part- contortionist! We did it...and so far it hasn't fallen apart! (yet) In the early days of September...the computer "went live" and staff had 2 weeks to perfect their newly learned techniques before "going on-line" Sept. 22.. While the information retrieval is most fascinating, talking to a "machine" which seems to tell you on every possible occasion that "command invalid" can be a most frustrating experience! Various mutterings and mumblings, hopefully indiscernible to patrons, emanated from the Reading Room as staff attempted to "get into" UTLAS. Our expertise hopefully will increase and permit a more friendly attitude to the "machine"! A Union staff workshop was made more pleasant as the Board hosted staff to a luncheon. The centre of discussion was the need for complete information for inter-library loan and also the operation of Priority Post...another exciting topic for future newsitems. Pat Little, co-ordir.ator, was coâ€"convenor and moderator of a Regional Library Promotion workshop in Ottawa. Portland/Delta librarian Joyce Gunnewiek attended as a participant. From comments after the session it would appear that everyone enjoyed the active concept and also took home many ideas with which to "promote" their library. The Board hopes to offer some programs during Public Library Week Oct. 20â€"26 The events planned so far are included in the adjacent news release. The Board invites the public to join in the many listed activities and will host a "MEET THE BOARD" hour prior to the October meeting on the 23rd. Location is in the Seeley's Bay Branch. Coffee and donuts will be served and anyone interested in staying for the Board meeting is most welcome. ____________ CARVETH LODGE IS THE RESIDENCE pREFERRED BY SENIOR CITIZENS CONCERNED WITH TOMORROW'S LONGâ€"TERM HEALTH CARE REQUIREMENTS â€"â€"‘_â€". ___.___ FOR INFORMATION CALL OR WRITE to: "l CARVETH CARE CENTRE 375 JAMES STREET GANANOQUE, ONTARIO.
