General meeting procedures were followed with the adoption of the minutes and the acceptance of the treasurer‘s report. The 1987 Budget, which had been accepted unanimously at the November meeting, was revised slightly downward due to the completion of December transactions. Members will now make appointments with their respective councils to present the request for 1987 funding. Coâ€"ordinator Pat Little will prepare Budget packages and visual aids for the presentation and distribute them to members early in January. The Board read correspondence from the Council of the Village of Newboro with their decision to close the library building in that community. A recent survey done in coâ€"operation with the Board revealed low resident use of the service from the Newboro facility. Combining these facts with the high cost of maintaining and operating the building, Council felt this decision was necessary. The Council of Newboro expressed wishes to remain part of the Union operation, Coming Events Column. N.B. at least for the immediate future, and will continue to have the required representatives on the Board. Alternate methods for offering library service have been devised. Books-by-Mail and a Home Visitation program should be in operation early in the New Year. A letter to every Newboro resident has been sent, asking for registrations in either of these two programs. The Board will continue to look at other ways to assure libra- ry service to Newboro residents. All members of the Union have free access, with their library card, to all services and units of the Rideau Lakes Union Libraries. Following the business section of the meeting, members par- took of seasonal refreshments.
