A. Elgin & District Coâ€"operative Nursery School The children who attend the Nursery School have been busy since Christmas exploring a variety of themes under the guidance and encouragement of their teacher, Ruth Brown and her assistant, Barb Neff. Themes have included Family, Winter, Shapes, Opposites, 200 Animals, Valentines, Number and "All About Me". Mrs. Brown has been working with individual children for experience in counting, matching opposites, recognition of number symbols and colours. The newly acquired Snakes and Ladders game, Multilink toy (for counting and numbers) and alphabet cards have stimulated a keen interest in numbers and letters. Drama is very popular at the moment; the children just love to act out songs and stories and have been entertaining their teachers! They also love dressing up and role playing (We need clothes for the dressâ€"up corner, so next time you clear out your closet, please remember the nursery school). In order to encourage recalling and relating past events, Mrs. Brown has recently been asking the children to] share news about their weekend activities. The results are posted on the wall of the classroom, much to the delight and sometimes the amusement of the parents. The Nursery school has been experiencing financial difficulties this year because of low enrollment. All expenses are covered by the fees and any donations. The parents have been busily seeking community support and are just beginning to meet with some success in this area. Our current f undâ€"raising e f fort is a Mother's Day raffle of a Panasonic microwave oven 21; 20" Panasonic Colour TV (Winner's choice!) as first prize and a Panasonic Stereo Radio Cassette, donated by Duncan's Radio 8: T.V. as second prize. Our children enjoy and benefit from the experiences which Nursery School offers them. If ‘you have been wondering about taking advantage of this program for your child, you will be interested to know that children can join the class at any time during the school year, on a full-time or part-tim basis. Consider that sending your child on a partâ€"time basis this spring could go a long way towards preparing him/her for full-time participation next fall. Also, we will be organizing a schedule for April and May for each child who now attends to have an opportunity to "bring a friend" for a day, and in May we will have an Open House. Please feel free to call if you are interested in any of these options, if you have any questions, or if you would just like to drop by to see what goes on.
