4 NORTH LEEDS LANTERN DELTA W.I. It was our pleasure to have as our guests Philipsville WI at our March meeting in the Community Hall, Delta. Shirley Wilson chaired the meeting. Business was kept to a minimum because of our Program but the following merits our attention: 1. Our crafts for the Apron Factory are to be given to Joen Stewart, this will help to raise funds for WI expenses. 2. Our Sunshine bags are to be used to buy flowers for the park so make those bags jingle! 3. Please come to the April meeting prepared to contribute ideas regarding the new position of Program Coordinator, how we want to set up this new role. 4. Our nominating committee is composed of Pat LeBlanc, Nellie French and Vera Sheridan. Our speaker was Mrs. Rosemarie Tripp of Via Rail. We were interested to hear of the advance Via Rail has made since its inception in 1977. Via is responsible for all passenger services and operations but is still tied to the CNR and CPR for their rail lines and to the CNR also for their conductors, engineers and brakemen (all other personnel are Via employees). However, the CNR train operators will soon be given the choice of being Via Rail employees or remaining CNR. Via handles 18,000 revenue passengers per day in Canada and declares itself to be 14 times more efficient than airways, 7 times more efficient then an auto and twice as efficient as a bus, which I am willing to accept being an old RR buff but an inquiring mind should have asked "based on what and whose facts?" We were very pleased to learn of the program to improve services for passengers with Special Needs and considerable advance has been made, especially in the larger city depots. Our members were very interested in the Travel Tours which sound reasonable and exciting. For information regarding tours, for special groups or particular events, etc. you can conduct Via or a Travel Agency. Mrs. Tripp was presented with a spoon showing Delta's Old Stone Mill. For information regarding our group, phone Florence Molony at 928â€"2801. DELTA UCW President Irma Chant welcomed everyone and 0aned the meeting with DELTA FIRE DEPARTMENT prayer. Roll call was EASTER BINGO APRIL 10, 1987 answered by the members indicating that 5 hospital and 18 home visits were made. Minutes of the last AT THE meeting and treasurer's report were read and DELTA FIRE HALL accepted- AT 8:00 P.M. It was decided that our Easter Thankoffering meeting be held April 8th at 8 p.m. in the church, at which slides will be shown on Haiti. Nellie French opened her worship program by reading an Indian Story entitled "The Traditional Western Answers Offer No Solution to Me! The story took place on a Pine Ridge reservation in South Dakota, where the majority of people are mixed blood. In writing this story, the author demonstrated that some Indian ideas have a more universal application than most think. Irene Goodsell then read a Chaplain's story on his various visits to Vancouver people, thus telling of how some of the Mission and Service funds are being used. Meeting closed with the reading of an Indian song. l2 REGULAR GAMES Ll HAM GAMES I MINIâ€"JACKPOT I LARGE JACKPDT I WINNERâ€"TAKEâ€"ALL 50/50 DRAW NEVADA CLUB TICKETS FULL CANTEEN BY LADIES AUXILIARY NOTICE TO ALL RESIDENTS OF THE TOWNSHIP of BASTARD AND SOUTH BURGESS The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville and the Leeds and Grenville Veterinary Association will be holding RABIES CLINICS on the following dates: April I.
