l PRESS RELEASE Concerned Waterway Users Association The Concerned Waterway Users Association â€" a rapidly growing group opposing the implementation of the "park" proposal of the proposed James Auld Waterway Provincial Park â€" has now passed 1100 paid memberships. A canoe route is acceptable, but we cannot support the 21 lakes being under provincial "park" regulations. We have unanimous support from all of the Township Councils along the proposed waterway. On June 3rd, Frontenac County Council adopted the Industry, Tourism and Publicity Standing Committee recommendation that they support a memorial to James Auld, but not support the designation of the waterway as a Provincial Park under the proposed James Auld Waterway Provincial Park scheme, and further that the waterway should remain open to all present permitted uses and named the James Auld Memorial Waterway. Daily we have new support volunteered from other interest groups, waterway users and landowners. Larry South, MPP for Frontenac County, was solicited by the C.W.U.A. and he assured us that he would write to Mr. Kerrio, Minister of Natural Resources, to put the park proposal . on hold. Bob Runciman,‘ MPP for Leeds & Grenville has publicly supported the C.W.U.A. and has personally contacted Mr. Kerrio. The Concerned Waterway Users Association has received an invitation to join 14 other representation groups to sit on the Public Advisory Committee, chaired by Bill Hardy, MNR representative. In an effort to promote unity and to ensure that our supporters' desires are met, the C.W.U.A. is currently contacting the MNR asking them to include feasability and desirability in their terms of reference. A public presentation of our concerns will be held Saturday, July 4th at 7:30 p.m. at the Townhall in Sydenham. The main purpose of this meeting is to inform the public and to solicit new members.
