.\‘ ' Whiteford . - SEELEY'S BAY LEGION The highlights of the June 13th Past President's dinner and honors and awards night were numerous and impossible to list in order of importance so I will list them exactly as they happened. To start off with, Sgt. at arms Grace Tryon and flag bearers Hilda Talboys and Betty Draper were in position for the Ladies Auxiliary and Sgt. at arms Don Charboneau and flag bearers Roy Talboys and Ted Smith were in position for the branch. The many guests were introduced which included presidents or their representitives from just about every branch in our zone, Deputy Reeve Gordon Leadbeater, Fire Chief Tony Noakes and many others you will recognize as you read on. Branch President Len Whiteford then started things off by a salute and a lot of well deserved accolades for the tremendous job done by our immediate Past President Garry Hunter over the last two years. A certificate of merit was presented to Comrade Ted Smith by Zone Commander Marg Moule. This was followed bywpast officers medals to comrades Tom Broomer and Ken Draper which were presented by Len Following 'Comma’nd'er‘ Marg Moule read his history with this branch and then presented him with a lifelong membership, we all enjoyed one of the longest standing ovations ever witnessed in this hall. And now it is the Ladies Auxiliary's turn. President joan Whiteford called for past president this, Velma Turner to be Paraded forward and presented her with a plaque for the devotion beyond the call of duty for serving as president for nine consecutive years. lst vice president Martha Bennett and Branch Past President Garry Hunter then presented comrade Velma with framed pictures of the executive'committees. This branch was then honoured by Mrs. Rose Wood of Ottawa who donated a flag and staff in memory of her husband, the late Arthur Wood. This was accepted by the president who promised to secure it in a place of prominence in Branch 491 for all time. There will be no general meetings for the summer but we will gather together every Wednesday night. Please watch the next Lantern for the fall details. - A branch bulletin will be issued in August.
