SENIORS BRIDGE GENERATION GAP The Rideau Welcome Club No 693 (Portland), at a regular meeting held on June 101b, were entertained with splendid singing by 60 children from Rideau Centennial School, under the direction of their Music Teacher, Joan Avery. The children displayed much talent and a great deal of potential. Mrs. Avery and children were highly commended for their performance. The children were rewarded with treats. President Mary Sutcliffe welcomed the 35 members who answered roll call. The minutes were approved, communications read and the Treasurer's report recieved. The club is saddened by the recent death of one of our elder, beloved, active members, John Bulloch. A community memorial service was held at the Portland United Church on June 10th. John was a past president and was always an active and willing member. A memorial donation will be provided by the club. Each year the club donates a subscription of the North Leeds Lantern to the Quinte 1000 Islands Lodge. A resolution was passed to renew the subscription. to donate may leave them at Doug's house. Claire Mills reported on the bus tours. A bus will be going to Cullen Gardens and Parkwood Estate on July 29th. Anyone interested is advised to contact Claire Mills at 272â€"2039. An invitation has been received from Jennifer Cossitt, M.P. for Leeds, to attend Parliament on Sept 30th. Details not yet available. Mary Sutcliffe and Clara Hull attended the seniors games held at Lombardy an June 9th, to gain information. Games included euchre, bridge, cribbage, horseshoes , shuffle board, carpet bowling and swimming. Tables were set for 288 participants from Lanark, Leeds and Grenville Counties. Judy Cronin is the Recreation Director for this area. Mervin Mills made and donated a cutlery box to the club. The president was authorized to forward a letter to the Municipal office in support of the proposed Community Health Centre for the area. Due to lack of medical services and transportation we feel that it is crucial here for seniors.
