4 NORTH LEEDS IANTERII W. I . DISTRICT ANNUAL The District Annual, North Leeds branches was held in the United Church hall, Delta on May 14th. Registration was at 9:30 a.m. with the meeting at 10:00 a.m. Mary Sutcliffe, president welcomed everyone. Guests included Mrs. james Holmes, Provincial board director, area president Louise Poole, Dorothy Brown, Margaret Emmons, and Mae Wayte. The meeting opened with O Canada and the Ode followed by the Mary Stewart collect. The address of welcome was given by Irene Goodsell, Delta, the reply by. Leorene Hayes, Philipsville. Mrs. Holmes ratified the voting delegates. Mary gave a very interesting report telling of the different things she had taken part in, places and people she had meet as district president. Shirley Wilson read the minutes of the last meeting, also giving the treasurer's report. The auditor's report was given by Clara Hallett. Roll call was Chaffey's Lock 5, Delta 11, and Philipsville 6. Guest speaker Mrs. Holmes outlined all the changes taking place. Next year will see Citizenship & World Affairs, Family & Consumer Affairs, Agriculture & Cultural activities all supervised by a program co~ ordinator, who will get as much help as she can from the members. The Women's Institute are the only group with members on the Royal Winter Fair board. The 90th Anniversary of the W.l. Will be celebrated in North Bay july 6â€"9th. There are some positions to be filled on the board, also the president's office will be 3 years, not 2 years. The area convention is in Napanee on October let. Mrs. Holmes reported on the pennies for friendship. She said if each member put in the price of a loaf of bread for the next 3 years, they would reach their goal. The Erland Lee Home opens in june. Memorium Cards are available and new minutes books can be purchased at Grand and Toy for $9.99. The new hand books will soon be ready and will cost $5.00 each. The federated news can be bought for $2.00 if 10 people order; less orders cost $2.50. Mrs. Holmes closed with a poem "Ode to a Board Director" and a cute story. A coffee break followed with the standing committee reports being given. A lovely memorial service was conducted by Isabel Robert and Pat LeBlanc. Flowers were placed in memory of Maybelle Hughson and Margaret jean Rowswell, Chaffey‘s Lock and Helen Gifford, Delta. This closed the morning session. The afternoon session opened with the ladies being divided into groups. Each group was given a question to discuss. Reports of the standing committees continued. Miss jean R‘ddell (Rural Organization Specialist) spoke on the changes in her organization in regards to films, books, etc. She gave out sheets telling about the number of women working now.
