THREE NEW SERVICES HERALD SENIOR CITIZENS' MONTH June is Senior Month and Monday, June lst, three new services are being offered to Senior Citizens and their families by the Citizens' beginning VON Seniors Support â€" North Leeds; Transportation to Medical Appointments, an Information and Referral Service and a Home Maintenance Registry. These three services are in addition to the Friendly Visiting Program which has been operating successfully 'for over two years. TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM Occasionally Seniors may not have access to their own transportation, or family or friends may not be available to help them get to their medical appointments. Now a community service exists whereby they can request transportation to medical appointments including dental, hearing, vision, physio or occupational therapy within the North Leeds area and to the larger centers of Kingston, Brockville and Smiths Falls. Volunteer drivers are matched to the client by the VON Seniors Support â€" North Leeds. At least 4 days notice prior to the scheduled medical appointment is required. The drivers volunteer their time but their mileage V is reimbursed charged to the Senior which depends upon the area in which the Senior lives and the destination Of the medical appointment. The service area has been broken down into 4 zones and a fee sheet is available which illustrates the present flat rate fee structure to most medical distinations in our area. You can reach us by telephone from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday to Thursday and all day Fridays. Our telephone number is 359â€"1068. Calls at other times will be received by a telephone answering device or you may call 359-5075. Collect calls will be accepted from long distance exchanges within the areas serviced. These areas include the Townships of North and South Crosby, Bastard and South Burgess and the Incorporated Villages of Newboro and Westport. The Information and Referral Service is designed to assist Seniors and their families in finding answers. Information will be provided regarding existing community support programs and, resources. As well, assistance will be given to questions of social, legal, health or housing concerns by providing information or referring inquiries to the appropriate agencies. The service is free and confidential and Seniors or their families with questions are urged to call our office. HOME MAINTENANCE REGISTRY Seniors want to remain in their homes. But sometimes the difficulties of home maintenance and upkeep can cause discomfort or distress. We can help with a registry of people who IRIIJELAII DRIVING SCHOOL NORTH LEEDS LANTERN are willing to perform "odd" jobs with a Senior who needs some work completed. We cannot be responsible for the quality of the work or its cost. The Senior will pay the Handyperson according to an agreement they will make between themselves as to the cost of the work.
