SEELEY'S BAY U.C.W. As hostess, Alice Leavitt welcomed the members to their Thanksgiving meeting. "In everything give thanks" was the theme of the devotional given by Bonnie Roantree. Let us not only be thankful for one day - but for every day. Mabel Mainse read a poem which expressed these sentiments for all. The thankoffering was received and dedicated. The president, Dorothy Heys, conducted the business. The minutes and treasurer's report were approved as read; the card report showed sympathy and get well cards had been sent to many and assistance was given at two funerals. Trees and shrubs have been planted at the side of the church, and three members donated trees as a celebration of the baptism of a grandchild. Various members offered to substitute for Dorothy Heys while she enjoys the sunny south. So many contributed to the success of our annual turkey supper and we are grateful to use the facilities of the fire-hall. The happy weekend continued to our Sunday Anniversary service when Rev. Ron Smeaton and his wife Delores returned to our midst. After, there was an opportunity to greet old and new friends as lunch was served in the C.E. room. Our UCW was responsible for registration at the sectional fall rally held in Lyndhurst. The speaker, Mary Nichols, a retired nurse and missionary who worked in Nepal, showed pictures and told us of how people live in that very different culture from ours. Rev. Carolyne Turner requested used books for the penal institutions and donations are to be left at Dorothy's. For our program, our minister, Rev. Daryl Bell, shared with us many reminiscenses of his journey of faith into the ministry - as well as humourous 12 NORTH LEEDS LANTERN MEMBER 1990 SEELEY'S BAY SENIORS Seeley's Bay Seniors met for the September business meeting on Friday, September 14th. President Orvin Martin welcomed 26 members and all joined in singing "O Canadall with Millie McFadden at the piano. "Happy Birthday" was sung to Shirley Martin. Orvin asked all to observe two minutes silence in memory of Kenneth Simpson who passed away since our last meeting. Orvin welcomed our new member, Mr. Montgomery, who has purchased the home of Mrs. Laodicia Dean. June read the minutes of the last meeting and Valera gave the Treasurer's report; both were approved. Visits have been made to several people in the village and also to former members in Carveth Residential Lodge and Nursing Home. Two of our members attended the West Section of the Zone meeting at Elgin, where Peter Breedyk of Delta was chosen as President of this section. The meeting closed with the Mizpah Benediction. Afterwards, refreshments were served, followed by cards or games. SEELEY'S BAY SENIORS There were 30 members present for the October business meeting. The meeting opened with a welcome by President Orvin Martin and a special welcome to the Western Zone 20 President, Peter Breedyk, who spoke a few words to us. All united in singing "O Canada", followed by "Happy Birthday" to Mary Davies, Etheleen Tye, Howard McConnell and Freda Tempest. The Secretary called the roll and followed with the reading of the minutes of the September meeting. The correspondence was a follows: a letter from the Township stating there would be no dinner for the volunteers this year because of a tight budget; a poster reminding seniors to get their Flu shots. Other reminders were: St. Peter‘s Church Annual Smorgasbord Supper, October 24; Legion Steak Dinner, October 27; Legion Remembrance Day Service, November 11. The Treasurer gave her report, which was approved. Orvin told us that Seeley's Bay Lodge is under new management with Anna Johnson as supervisor. He suggested that we should supply them with some form of entertainment once a month. Two minutes silence was observed in memory of Herb Eaton, one of our SEELEY'S BAY LEGION If you like the sound of the bagpipes, if you like to see the pipers and drummers on parade, then join us at the Legion Hall on Sunday, 11 November at 10:45 a.m. to help us remember those who paid the supreme sacrifice. Following the laying of wreaths at the Legion cenotaph, the parade, consisting of legionaires, Korean Veterans Association, Seeley's Bay Firemen, Seeley's Bay Lions Club, Seeley's Bay Borwnies, and Seeley's Bay Scouts will march to the Seeley's Bay United Church for a special Remembrance Day service. Following the service, we parade back to the Legion Hall where you will be treated to a very special Mini-Tattoo put on by the Royal Military College Pipes and Drums. A day to remember that will be a day to remember. On Saturday, 17 November, you will be pleased to hear, we are having another of our popular and famous fish fries. 5p.m. to 8p.m. Following the fish fry, there is a dance to help you boogie off a few pounds of fish. Our annual Ladies Auxiliary and' Senior Citizens Christmas Dinner and Party will be on Saturday, 8 December this year, and more information will follow in the next issue.
