Fire Chief, Paul Ostrom, Park Superintendent D.J. Donald and Larry Fry, Chairman of the Environmental Conmittee all made presentations. Students and teachers attended as well as a few members of the public. Several pupils took the opportunity to question Council members and those making presentations. We felt it was a highly successfuly day. On November 5, the meeting will be held at Rideau Centennial School, Portland. Members of the public are welcome and encouraged to attend. Some members of Council have been busy keeping abreast of the latest developments in government policies which affect the municipalities. Councillors Tackaberry and Greenhorn and Clerkâ€"Treasurer Shirley Bryden attended the two day session of Municipal conference 1990 held at the Holiday Inn, Kingston and Deputy Clerkâ€"Treasurer Jane Purdie, attended the Municipal Finance Conference in London. Council has also been busy with on site meetings, two were held on Saturday. One of these was at Portland Library. This facility is a Township responsibility. In this respect a hard decision had to be made. The Portland library is extensive repairs at considerable cost. Therefore, the only solution was to temporarily locate the library in the lower level of the Portland Conmunity Hall. Discussions will be held with the Hall Board as to the best use of space to accommodate all users of the buildings. All members of council attended the opening of the Patrick J. McManus Centre at the Baxter Conservation Area, Manotick. Congratulations to Pat who has been actively involved in the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority for 25 years as the representative from this Township. Among his many achievements were Chairman of Rideau Valley Conservation Authority Councillor in Bastard and South Burgess. Many compliments have been received from your gratitude for those who served believing they were creating a better future for all. Council will be represented at both services. This is one way you can honour those who made the supreme sacrifice. A good attendance by the public is always appreciated.
