SPECIAL MEETING â€" April 4, 1990 - Requested from Parks Canada to purchase filled land on West Side of St. Mary's Street, Portland to the edge of the building, with tie understanding that a similar request is already in place for the filled land on the East Side of St. Mary's Street, further that the Township will lease to the adjacent property owners on St. Mary's Street the filled portions of land and the leasee will be responsible for controlling the filled land and the appropriate water lease rights adhered to and that Parks Canada will be reconmending sale subject to the easement to Mr. Dickey and secondly that the requested survey include identification of the location where the heat pump pipe enters the water. â€" Approved the 1990 Road Budget for expenditures in the amount of $413,500.00. - Authorized a donation of $1,000.00 to the North Leeds Lantern. It is a pleasure to know that some ratepayers agree with our decisions and are interested enough to write. The majority of our correspondence is negative, what a lift to the spirits when supportive letters arrive!! We are working for the betterment of the whole Township. The United Counties are sponsoring a County wide Strategic Economic Development Plan. We hope it will be a benefit to our Township. Further information will be forwarded. Public meetings are well publicized for any interested citizen to attend. Volunteer appreciation night was held on April 6 at Portland. Although the turnout was small, it was a very enjoyable evening. Entertainment was supplied by the Piehl family of Plum Hollow. Recently retired Fire Chief Albert Shire was honoured for his 37 years of service on the Fire Department, 14 of these as Chief. Reeve Ostrom made an appropriate speech and presented Mr. Shire with a scroll and an engraved gold watch. Happy retirement Ab! Refreshments were supplied by capable Philipsville W.I. caterers â€" sumptious as usual! with different Ministries: The M.N.R. re: the new Aggregate Resources Act, the Assessment Office re; County wide assessment based on market value and M.0.F. regarding waste disposal sites. On the latter tepic we are still studying and assessing the life of our waste disposal sites. Council has made on site visitation to both sites. Plans have been made for the placement of recycling bins, leaves, brush, furniture etc. As: wel] as the :u,lendaiu directing you, signs will he prominently placed. Procedures are still being clarified. Check this issue of the lantern for the updated information. Please remember, you must have a ticket for disposing of items requiring a surcharge (Regulation 5). Attendant is not allowed to accept any of these items without a preâ€"paid ticket. Remember, you should be at the site no later than 15 minutes prior to closing. Based on the experience of neighbouring Townships who have had to close their sites, we estimate the cost of taking our garbage out of our area would lp approximately $300.00 per household. How would that lCDk on your tax bill? And remember, this is only based on once a week pickup. So, please, please, work with us to prolong the life of our sites.
