Freda Tempest ELIZA GILMORE On Sunday, April 1, after church service, the C.E. room of our Seeley‘s Bay United Church was the scene of an informal, happy birthday party. Eliza Gilmore, one of our well known and popular ladies, was the guest of honour, it being the celebration of her 90th birthday (April 2). Eliza is one of our friendliest ladies in Seeley's Bay. She is active in her church - seldom is she missing from her regular place â€" a faithful member of our Seniors Club - known by her neighbours and friends for her kindness and willingness to help in any way she is needed. We all know where to go when we need flowers for the church or any special occasion. She has always been generous in giving away the lovely things she grows. We just couldn't let her 90th birthday go by without something special happening, something that the whole congregation could join in and take part. congregation was prepared to stay after church service and partake of the beautiful cake and ice cream. The cake was made by our own Joyce Simpson, and so was very special. This gave Eliza a good chance to greet everyone, and see many just returned from Florida. Helen Sweet made a presentation of flowers, and spoke of the Gilmore family when they first came to Seeley's Bay. Eliza's husband, Jack, a builder and electrician, built the house where Eliza lives now. After Jack died, Eliza went to Toronto where she did practical nursing at the Veteran's Hospital for many years, coming home on weekends. The party was a complete surprise to the birthday lady, as you Could see by the look of astonishment on her face when asked to lead the way into the C.E. room. Mr. Charles Smith, a nephew, took a picture of Eliza and the cake. We just want her to know we G. Fische r 928-2783 All custom made.
