We will be able to serve adults from Elgin, Westport, Portland, Seeley's Bay, and all surrounding areas. The program will run throughout the school year. Hopefully, we will become a permanent program at Rideau. Adult Education is an area of education which has expanded tremendously in the past few years. Many adults now realize that their jobs and their interests are far different than they were ten or fifteen years ago. The courses we offer can help students develop the skills and knowledge that they need in the 80's and 90's. The use of computers, new business practices, and new technology have changed many types of jobs. This has encouraged a new idea, sometimes called "lifelong learning." In the future, adults will frequently need or want to return to schools and colleges on a part time basis in order to keep up with their changing world. The Alternative Program will help adults reach these goals. There will be both full time adult students, and independent, W ._ . . home-study students using ' 1ft;- - ' our program.
