6 NORTH LEEDS LANTERN ELGIN U.C.W. The U.C.W. met February 14, 1989. 21 members attended. President Shirley Bryden opened the meeting with a reading. Marjorie Earl, Millie Simpson and Shirley Bryden took the worship for the meeting. Valentine's Day and Lent were two prominent events everyone was aware of. The theme for worship was "Love God." A reading was done with all participating. The hymn,“Love Divine All Loves Excelling," was sung with Marion Seeley as pianist. The offering was taken and dedicated, worship closed by all saying a benediction. For our program, David Eyre of our congregation spoke. In 1988 he was an exchange student and lived in Australia. He gave us a very informative talk on his life there and his observations on various issues as the Australians view them. He illustrated his talk well and had several questions asked. He obviously loved the opportunity he had and it was a wonderful learning experience for him. The business portion opened with the reading of the minutes of our January meeting by the secretary Lydia Tackaberry. The minutes were approved. Several reports were given. It was noted presbytery meets February 28 in Kingston. In April, Cheryl Battams is having a retreat for our young people. It was agreed that the U.C.W. contribute financially for each young person attending. The Lions Club of Elgin gave our U.C.W. an inscribed plaque in appreciation for our service to them over the years. This will be placed in the church. Ongoing business was discussed and correspondence dealt with. The meeting closed with prayer by Shirley. The social hour and luncheon followed with the ladies having the table decorated in the Valentine's theme.
