Congratulations to Comrade Bill Nolan who won the nomination on Sunday 19 March and will assume office on May 18. Our last Zone Commander was Comrade Herb Eaton who held this office in 1959. Comrade Bill's Deputy Zone Commander will be Comrade Wilmer Tedford from Branch 92 Gananoque. Comrade Marg Moule will become the Immediate Past Zone Commander and all I can say at this time is that Comrade Bill has an awful big pair of boots to fill. The President, Orvin Martin, welcomed all and asked them to unite in singing "O Canada". Ernie Grigsby was asked to remain standing while we sang "Happy Birthday" to him. Congratulations were extended to Ernie and Margaret on their 38th wedding anniversary. The minutes of the February meeting were read and approved and the treasurer's report given and adopted as read. Orvin introduced V.O.N. Sandra Gray, who spoke to us concerning the Senior Support Program for Leeds County so that seniors can stay in their own homes. She mentioned such helps as transportation for medical services, home maintenance helpers, etc. Orvin is to attend the board meeting at Gananoque Library Zâ€"4p.m. March 14th. Ernie Grigsby gave us a list of the trips scheduled for 1989 and invited those who belong to Gananoque Seniors to their Anniversary Dinner on March 23rd at the Gananoque Legion. There is also a Euchre Tournament April 17th. As our pot luck falls on Good Friday, it will be held on March 3lst instead. Margaret mentioned that seniors who wish help with making out their Income Tax forms may call 387-3641. Orvin reminded everyone to meet at the Legion Hall on Thursday March 16th at 12p.m. to go to Chaffey‘s Lock for their luncheon meeting.
