DELTA W.I. Our October meeting was held in the Delta Community Hall which has a suitable room for our meetings and work, plus adjacent kitchen and washroom. It was agreed that we would engage this arrangement for nine months each year as it is central and parking space is always available. We are delighted to welcome our new member, Frances French, and her young daughter, Laura, to our group. Our W.I. donates to the Delta 4H members a spoon for every two projects completed and a bell on the completion of six projects. Two bells were awarded this year; congratulations to Katie Bond and Cindy French. Shirley Wilson and Florence Molony attended the PRIDE meeting for this area. The general outlook is that Delta needs to avail herself of every opportunity to obtain grants and push ahead as it is too lovely a village to allow it to fade away. We are saddened to learn of our respected member's woes; Mrs. Vera Sheridan is in the Ottawa Civic Hospital as she had another fall while visiting her daughter. Also greatly missed was our valued member, Audrey Talbot, who has _. moved to Athens. 'Best wishes are extended to these long serving, faithful members. Our delegate to the Area Convention in Napanee is Florence Molony who will accompany our President, Irene Goodsell. Our Christmas Party will be held on Dec. 15th with Chaffey's Lock and Philipsville W. I . 's invited to join us. Isabel Robert will chair this committee, assisted by Florence Molony and Shirley Wilson, and hopefully, by all the members. The Craft Period was used by Irene Goodsell to teach us how to make Grapevine Wreaths; the vines were supplied by Shirley Wilson. Apparently the grapevines are prevalent all around here and easy to mold. ~ The Program report was given by Isabel Robert. The English Home & Country Magazines were well worthy of Isabel's enthusiasm and were offered, on loan, to interested members. The condensation of the reports and magazines gave us a clear picture of England's W.l. at the National, Formation and individual Institute levels ;. we were impressed by their vigor and diversity and quite aware that their concerns were closely allied to ours â€" protection and education of youth, care of the elderly, water purity, drug abuse prevention, in short: a citizen's concern for their community. All ladies welcome; for information please phone Florence Molony at 928â€"2801 . DELTA UCW President Irma Chant opened our meeting with an appropriate Thanksgiving prayer followed with the repeating of our Purpose. Aileen jacques read the scripture lesson. Collection was taken and dedicated. Roll call was answered with 11 hospital and 10 home visits. We were reminded of the Mite jars and also Church calendars are now available. The secretary and treasurer's reports were read. As a topic for the worship service, Irma chose "When Assimilation is attempted â€" we say No!". John Sampson, an Indian Chief from Vancouver Island, B.C. told of how they have progressed over the years, in learning our ways. He remarked "I think the public is starting to realize that many of our young Indian people have great potential and are capable of making a contribution â€" not only to our own community but to the nonâ€"Indian community as well." The Mizpah Benediction was repeated. Everyone then enjoyed lunch. See you at the November meeting to be held in the Church Hall. A Taste of Ontario Fruits and Vegetables 4-H members in Leeds County are currently enrolled in a 4-H project that discovers the varieties and versatilities of Ontario's fruits and vegetables. Selection, buying, cooking and serving tips show the 4-H member the best varieties and grades for certain recipes, a variety of cooking methods and how to present an attractive, nutritious snack. 4â€"H'ers will also try their hand at writing promotional advertisements for the different fruits and vegetables, plus practise their public speaking skills. These young people are between the ages of 12 and 21 years and will attend club meetings and complete a project book. The Achievement Program will be an Open House Food Fare at the Lansdowne Community Building on Monday, November 16 beginning at 7:00 pm. Anyone is welcome.
