We encourage the children to give the correct names to each other. The older children who recognize their own names are beginning to recognize other printed names. We have also played number and letter games and, during circle time, have learnt new songs and games. Our theme for September has been Safety. We have talked about fires, burns, scalds, and the importance of fire drills, smoke detectors, extinguishers and fire fighters. We have also talked about accidents in school, home and outside. We have emphasized the importance of wearing seat belts in a car, how to cross the road safely, and where it is and is not safe to play. Red has been the dominant colour this month and we have made collections of red objects and talked about the significance of red in relation to danger. In October we will be taking walks to collect leaves and we plan a visit to Skycroft. It is still possible to register your child in this program by coming to the Elgin United Church basement on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays, or by calling 359-5540.
