16 NORTH LEEDS LANTERN Rideau Lakes Union LIBRARY NEWS Patrons of Portland and Delta will be pleased to know that joyce and John Gunnewiek are the proud parents of a baby girl. This early arrival took us all by surprise and we are very fortunate that L015 Braidwood, a seasoned "pinchâ€"hitter", is able to take over the of these two running branches immediately â€" which is a lot earlier than the starting date originally discussed! We would like to draw to the attention of our Lyndhurst patrons a minor change in their branch's operating hours. On Wednesday nights the Lyndhurst branch will be open from 6:00 â€" 8:00 rather then from 7:00 â€" 9:00 p.m. We would also like to make all our patrons aware of the changes in our operating hours between Christmas and New Year's. All branches, except Elgin, will be closed from Dec. 24 to jan. 1 inclusive. Regular operating hours w1ll resume on Saturday, jan. 2. The Elgin branch will also be closed on Dec. 21. but will be open for all area patrons on the following days: Tuesday, Dec. 29 from 11 a.m. to A p.m. and 7-9 p.m.; Wednesday, Dec. 30 from 1â€"4 p.m.; Thursday, Dec. 31 from 1â€"4 p.m. The last three shows of our current show series will be coming up in the next three months. On Tuesday, Dec. 8 at 1:30 p.m., Dan Yashinsky, a professional storyteller, will be captivating a young audience at South Crosby Public School. He is one of only a couple of storytellers that the Ontario Arts Council recognizes as "artists" and he has performed in hundreds of schools and libraries since the late seventies. All members of the public are welcome to attend this performance at a cost of $1. Though the school audience Will be young, Dan knows how to appeal to all ages, so come out and treat yourself to one of the best. On Friday, jan. 22 at 1:30 p.m., Theatre on the Move will perform l‘ce Time at South Crosby Public School. In lce Time. by Carol Bolt, one of Canada's most popular playwrights brings us a timely and humourous musical about a young girl's dream to be allowed to play on a boys' hockey team. Ice Time is a touching and insightful look at the frustrations of being judged on our appearance rather than our talents. Members of the public are welcome to attend this performance for a $1. admission fee. ’ The last show is on Monday, Feb. lst, at 8:00 p.m. jest in Time Theatre provides the last show of our "season". You must see them â€" that's the only way you can really get an idea of the fresh and original approach they have. To quote from their press kit: "The five young of jest in Time are based in N.S., and their inspiration comes from mime, vaudeville and silent film comedy. The company combines traditional mime techniques with voice, acting and movement. The result is an original style of physical theatre which appeals to audiences of all ages. The sketches transcend the everyday world and artists Theatre Halifax, leap into the absurd, ranging from the hilarious and lightâ€"hearted to the thought provoking." The admission cost will be $5.; for series ticket holders, this is the last of 5 shows for $15. The location for this performance was not decided by press time, so be sure to contact your library in january for final details on our grand finale! Series ticket holders should take not that, due to limited funds, we will not be able to bring you an extra show at no cost as had originally been hoped for.
