ST. COLUMBANUS CATHOLIC CHURCH ELG IN "LENT IS A TIME OF SPIRITUAL RENEWAL" SCHEDULE OF LENTEN DEVOTIONS: WEEKEND MASSES Saturday 7.30 p.m. Sunday HOLY HOUR Ever STATIONS OF THE CROSS Every Friday in Lent at 7.30 p.m. ASH WEDNESDAY MASSES and Distribution of Ashes 9.30 a.m. 7.30 p.m. The Catholic Parish in Elgin is looking forward to its second session of the Renew Program. This second session begins February 14 and lasts through the six weeks of Lent. The theme for these six weeks will be "Our Response to the Lords Call." This theme is a follow-up to last Autumn's Renew session which developed the theme "The Lords Call." Altogether there are five sessions of six weeks each that make up the complete Renew Program. ‘ Sor'Lfa‘r-“Vit ' has been a great experience for the parishoners of Saint Columbanus Church. The Renew program is for everyone and each person decides to what degree she or he wishes to participate. Every Catholic is encouraged to participate whether or not that person attends church regularly. The process of the Renew program effectively assists each person to improve his/her own relationship with God, to know oneself better and to renew one's own faith. Each Sunday some aspect of the theme is covered by the scripture readings and the homily. In addition as the people leave Mass they may take home very interesting materials for consideration by their families during the week. For the first Renew session last fall, over sixty people took advantage of the small discussion groups which met once a week. These small discussion groups ‘ allow pecple the most complete involvement in the Renew process. Even more parishioners are expected to participate in the small discussion groups this time. 10.00 a.m. As a matter of fact it is also expected that there will be an increase in the number of people who form the Renew Prayer Network who each day pray for the success of Renew in the Elgin Parish. The power of their prayers was evident in the favourable response to the program. The pastor of St. Columbanus Church, Father Tim Shea, is delighted with the Renew Program in the Parish. He states, "Last Autumn's Renew session was terrific. It: helped the_ faith of the Parish to develop even deeper; and many individual parishioners felt Renew helped their own personal faith to grow . We eagerly anticipate further faith development as we proceed through the Renew Program." CWL The Catholic Women's League met Jan. I2 in O'Neill Hall with president Gen Bresee opening the short business meeting with a prayer. The roll call was called with twenty three members present. A thank you note was received from South Crosby Township for the goods donated to the food bank at Christmas. members were reminded of the upcoming pancake Breakfast and to help keep the Renew program active. Everyone agreed how much fun the Euchre parties were. Members were reminded of the next Euchre date and that it was open to anyone able to come. Rose Kenney then introduced our guest speaker. Sister Martha McKenna. In keeping with the Marian year. Sister Martha enlightened members with her speech about Women of the 20th Century. She praised the members for their keen interest and faith in that "a family that prays together stays together". In her speech we retraced her recent trip to the Holy Land where she assured us that Mary was a mother to us all. The meeting closed with a delicious lunch hosted by Jean Dwyre.
