12 NORTH LEEDS LANTERN Seeleys Bay UCW The December meeting was held in the CE. room and due to bad weather and several cases of illness the attendance of l2 was unusually small. President Joyce Simpson opened with a poem on our theme "Christmas". Minutes and treasurer's report were read and approved. Bills paid also the annual committments to UCW, church. etc and the usual donations were voted and passed. An interesting Christmas letter was read from Mrs. Campbell McLean wife of a former minister - giving us news of Mr. McLean. who has been in hospital for H years â€" also thanking everyone for support in these trying years and wishing all success in the future. Cards are to be sent to Mr. McLean and others not in good health. Our Christmas cookie boxes to be sent to the shutâ€"in friends. Our group goes to the Lodge on Dec. ID with our usual party and visit at Christmas. We were reminded that we are to provide a dinner at the Firehall in January for around I50 people. Mary Davies presented the devotional part of our meeting. She told the story of several great Christians who have contributed much to our faith. particularly in the christian hymns they have given us. Linda Horsey read the Christmas story. of two dedicated men from France finding themselves alone away from their families, in our Northern Canada. Unfriendly Indians were camped nearby and these men. one from a French Monastery. found a way to tell these Indians the Old Story of Christmas. in their own language. Next came our annual Cookie Exchange after which we all enjoyed cakes and ice cream. Garry H. Our first held Jan. than usual of 14 members. Pres. Tuesday entitled a thoughtful for a new year. Devotional by Valera Hartley. Minutes of December meeting and activities were read, and a number of "thank you" letters. The treasurers report was given and approved. Plans were discussed re: a banquet to be catered, in the Fire Hall. Details to be worked out later by the committee. Election of Officers- resulted in two major changes - Dorothy Heys - President & Joyce Baseley Vice Pres. Joyce Simpson was thanked for her 2 years of excellent leadership 8: appreciation was felt by all - for her dedication to the aims of the U.C.W. Appreciation was also expressed to Dorothy for taking over for the next two years. Freda Daires reminded us of the "Observer" due in March. For those really interested in the doings of our church - the Observer is a good buy. For our program, Myrtle Simpson read us a delightful story called "Rent a Husband" taken from a book called "who put all these cucumbers in my garden". It was an amusing story, which just struck the right note for all of us, and contained plenty of wisdom. Meeting closed and a social time enjoyed. j! INSTALLATN AND REPAIRS STEAM CLEANING! Satisfaction Guaranteed meeting of the new year was RM. 5 with a smaller attendance Joyce Simpson opened with a poem- "Friendship"â€" message theme was "Wise Men" - taken SEELEY'S BAY & DISTRICT LIONS CLUB Once again the Seeley's Bay and district Lic ns Club Inc. would like to thank the community for their support this past year. We have had a good year running our bingos every fourth Tuesday at the Olde Circle Hall, Kingston. There will be a bingo held on Jan. 26 and Feb. 23, and then every 4th ccnsecutive Tues. This has helped us to support the community programs. One being the V.E.P. program at Sweets Corners Public School, plus the money that we donate to the blind home, Lead-a-Dog assoc., and the Diabetes assoc., plus this year we donated money to the summer camp at Kendrics Park. We also held our annual Canada Day fireworks display and many other community programs. We continued into the fall with our bingos, and donating money to many assoc. We have t we more new member: that have joined us this year and we hope to enrole more as we lost one of our most prominant members, Doug Clark. We finished our year with the distribution of our Christmas baskets to the Community and plants for the Seeley's Bay Residental Lodge. All this was made possible with the cooperation of the following groups; the Seeleys Bay Legion, the U.C.W., Sweets Corners Public School, St. Barnaby's Church, the A.C.W., the township, and the Salvation Army. We are locking forward to a good year, which we hcpe will be good for the community. Thank you frcm all the Lions and its members. SEELEY'S BAY LEGION On Saturday afternoon 12. December this Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion hosted a dinner in honor of our Ladies Auxiliary. Forty members of the Seeley's Bay Senior Citizens Club joined us and also provided a fabulous dessert table and entertained us all with a singâ€"aâ€"long of Christmas carols. Margaret Keith then treated us to a melody of piano tunes. Special presentations were made to Comrade Don Charboneau by both the Branch and the Ladies Auxiliary, to Comrade Betty Draper by the Ladies Auxiliary and to the Ladies Auxiliary by Awilda Gamble. The beautiful flower center pieces were donated by Shirley Bottings. Under the guidance of Comrade Russ Thompson the men of the Branch prepared the meal, served the meal and cleaned up afterwards. Owl” KIDNEY FOUNDATION OF CANADA LEEDS CAMPAIGN 1988 During the month of March in our County volunteers will be calling on you for a donation, amount is entirely up to you, all are greatfully recieved. The canvassers will be wearing I.D. lapel pins and issue reciepts for income tax purposes. The Coâ€"ordinator for our County is Mrs. Edna Harris who is a recipient of a kidney transplant and living life to the fullest, assisted by June Goodwins.
