These volunteer hours represent a strong sense of caring and dedication that these special individuals express towards their community and its senior members. Not only do these volunteers visit their special friends on a regular basis but many are able to attend the monthly inservice programs offered by the program coordinator for their own support and development. These volunteers quietly give of their time according to their own personal timetable. Each hour is precious! The benefits to our community are enormous. The seniors who are visited receive the gift of companionship; nonconditional caring and the stimulation of a new interest and friend. Not surprisingly, the same gifts are bestowed up on the volunteers plus the added pleasure that they do "make a difference'. Andy Simpson, Terra Morris, Ryan Carty, Jennifer Winnie, Angel Furzer, Morgan Grady-Smith Elgin UCW attended took place on Tuesday April A well meeting 12th with 26 ladies in attendance. President Shirley Bryden opened the meeting with a reading entitled "Little Things Mean a Lot." Sandra Freeman's group gave the Worship, the theme being "Easter and the ReSurrection“ and "What it means to be a Christian". Appropriate stories were read followed by prayers by Leorene Hayes and May Dennison, after which the ladies formed groups, and taking passages from varying chapters of he Bible, illustrated hOW slightly different versions of the Resurrection were given. Offerings were taken and dedicated, and Sandra closed with prayer. Irene Guthrie's group gave an interesting study and Irene read a very delightful introduction from a book entitled "Pass the Fruit" and using a bowl of fresh fruit which was handed round, Marion Seeley and Katherine Sides explained how love and happiness could be passed from one to another. Once again groups were formed, and this time, taking passages from the Bible the ladies were asked to find the ingredients for the recipe for a "Scripture Cake”. All very interesting and most enjoyable. Lydia Tackaberry read the minutes of the last meeting and Enid Soper the Treasurer's report. Eleanor Taylor gave details of catering and Leorene the Flower Fund. The subject for the Steward's report by Nina Churchill was "Who am I, and amI a good Steward?" Sandra completed the busineSS section of the evening with a discussion on the very controversial subject of the ordination of homosexuals and lesbians. Votes were taken and collected, and the result will be given at the next meeting. To conclude, a pleasant social evening was enjoyed by all. Next meeting May 10th. Mr. Jackson our Custodian South Crosby Public School . Easter Breakfast On March 3lst the grade 7 8: 8'5 and their teacher Mrs. Tedford held an Easter Breakfast for themselves the kindergarten and the staff. The breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs, bacon, pancakes, toast and apple juice. Everyone came early, too early to change in fact. That's right, everyone wore their pyjamas. I Afterwards the children played games directed by Buffy Goring and Jason St. Pierre. They played bunny tag and had an Easter egg hunt which was the best part. The grade 7/8 then put on a performance with the Easter song about the lillies and of course Peter Cottontail. There were poems about the Woodland Easter Bunny and again Peter Cottontail came into the picture. The plays were created by a group in the class. The Easter Bunny Who Forgot Easter was a big hit, as was Joe Cool bunny. After doing the dishes and cleaning up , our breakfast was over, but we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Special thanks to Mrs. Keates and Mr. Duncan for their help. - Heidi Merriman Grade 8 2/,» 7
