NORTH LEEDS LANTERN L, Eleni Elgin And District Coâ€"operative Nln‘sery School The Elgin and District Coâ€"operative Nursery School is proud to say that it is celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year. Some of those years, especially the more recent ones, have been a real financial struggle, but thanks to the dedication and contributions of many parents and donations from various individuals and organizations in our communities, we have managed to keep the school open, providing a valuable opportunity for pre-schoolers in our area. As part of our Anniversary celebrations, we are having an Open House on May 17 from 7:30 to 9:30 pm at the Nursery School in the United Church basement, Elgin. We are inviting all teachers, parents and children who have been involved in the school over the past ten years, as well as any members of the public who are interested in seeing what goes on in that little room or who would like to find out more about the Nursery School. We are attempting to reach all "alumni" with a written invitation, but if we inadvertently miss someone, please be assured that you are most welcome to join us on that evening. Come see how we're doing now, and reminisce about the days when you were little enough to be there or when your children were little enough to be there! Have some cake, punch and coffee on us. Parents who would like to investigate the Nursery School with an eye to possibly sending their own child there in the fall would also be interested to know that the Open House will continue on May 18 from 9:00â€"11:30 and 1:00â€"3:30 while regular activites are going on. Parents and preâ€"schoolers are welcome to come right in and stay as long as they wish, to either observe or become actively involved in what is going on. If you have already decided to send your preâ€"schooler next fall, this is an excellent opportunity to familiarize hin1/her with the environment that he/she will enjoy in September. Anyone interested is welcome to join us at our Open House, If YOU have any questions about the Open HouSe Or any aspect of Nursery Schoo] please feel free to call the school at 359-5166 or Lorraine Porter at 359-5540. CWL President Gen Bresee welcomed the CWL members and opened the April meeting with prayer. The roll call was answered with your "all time Favourite T.V. show". The secretary and treasurer's reports were given. It was agreed by all that it was a lovely afternoon of worship and fellowship spent with the two other Elgin churches during World Day of Prayer. A thankyou was extended to Father Shea for his letter regarding the abortion issue. It was reported the Rosary for Life prayer on Fridays was going well. Our league was very happy to be a part of the Kingston Diocesan CWL group which made a generous donation to the Providence Manor Building fund. Gen was very happy with the increased response of members attending the May convention to be held in Kingston. Everyone was reminded of the upcoming Installation of Officers May 1, and the Living Rosary followed by Communion Breakfast May 29. With Communications being the meeting topic, many members displayed their great or in some cases lack of artistic talents while the rest tried to guess what the words were. The meeting Closed with a surprise Birthday party for Father Shea in the balloon filled rooms of his home. This special, social time and refreshments were enjoyed by all. TIDBITS FROM CHAFFEY'S LOCK Mrs. Ellen Bonwill, Skycroft Campgrounds, is in St. Mary's of the Lake Hospital, where she is recovering from a stroke she suffered in March. Our local resorts are getting very busy in antiCipation of the coming tourist season. The Opinicon has added a new conference room above the store. Peter and June Alford bought the Fleming house at the Lock and have been busy all winter getting ready to open a fast foos outlet in the garage part. They have had to install a new septic system and drill a new well. Good luck! Welcome back to all our residents who spend the winter months in warmer climes. Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Darling bought the former Mary K. Alford house and are expected to move in this spring. Mary had gone to live in Kingston. Mr. Darling was born and brought up on the Darling farm at the head of Opinicon Lake. Bill Franklin of Franklin‘s Marina has built a new room and carport on the side of his parent's home. He bought the house a few years ago and has been improving the property ever since. Rumour has it that he and Verona are planning to move there sometime in the near future. Submitted by Thea Dodge South Crosby School Auction The goods and services auction held on April 22nd by the School Committee was a financial success. Despite modest attendance almost all donated goods and services brought in healthy bids. Leon Burns, our Auctioneer, nct only donated his services but entertained us throughout the bidding.
