The original goal in Spring 1985 was to establish (-ommunication and improve. cultural understanding between the students of RDHS and the students in a Soviet school. The goal for Spring 1988 E our studentâ€"teacher delegation will meet their Soviet penâ€"pals and work toward achieving our "official twinning" and arranging a return visit of Soviet youth to our school. Soviet W321]: The week of April 11â€"15 will be Soviet Week at RDHS. During the week, students in Grade 9 English and History will be learning about the Soviet way of life. The highlight of the week will be a visit to the school on April 15 from members of the Soviet embassy staff in Ottawa. During the morning, the Soviets will be meeting with the Grade 9 students to answer questions. In the afternoon, there will be two sessions. The first will provide the Soviets with a chance to meet with the delegation of Rideau students that will be visiting the Soviet Union this May. Afterwards, there will be small group discussions with senior students. Delegation to the U.S.S.R. The delegation will leave from Montreal on May 4 and, after an overnight stay in Moscow, will visit Donetsk in the Ukraine from May 7 - 10 and Leningrad from May 11 â€" 14. The cost of the trip is $2,050. School Board funds will not be used toward travel expenses. The adult members of the delegation plan to pay the full amount, but fundâ€"raising from business, industry and local community groups will help defray the students' costs. To date, we are still hoping to raise $3,150.
