4 NORTH LEEDS LANTERN DELTA DATA The last meeting for the summer of the Delta U.C.W. was held in the Church hall with Vivian Morris acting AREA MUSICIAN TO JOIN CANADA'S TOP COUNTRY MUSIC PERFORMERS A decision made two years ago to make music a full time career is about to result in a birthday present of tremendous importance to a young Delta musician. On June 28th, a few days after his 26th birthday, Jef Leeson will join the Anita Perras & Tim Taylor band for its summer tour of Canadian clubs, fairs, and exhibitions. The band will appear in such diverse settings as the Perth Music Festival (July 3), Edmonton's Klondike Days in July, and by Taylor and sung by Perras, the tune rests at the top of the current Country Music News Canâ€"Country Hit Chart. Born in Ottawa, but raised in Merrickville and Delta, Mr. Leeson developed his vocal and instrumental skills as a teenager. Because of a health condition which prevented him from engaging in competitive sports, he turned to guitar studies to occupy his time. He is self taught. Early employment as a musician began with local partâ€"time bands in the mid 1980's. Stints with Kim Landon 8: Brass Buckle, of Lyndhurst, and Ron Gordon's Rambling Fever band in guitar professionally, Mr. Leeson has also mastered acoustic and electric guitars, drums, and keyboard well enough to allow him to compose and record in his home studio. He also ' performs lead and backup vocals. The son of Richard and Alice Leeson of Delta, Jef attended Beverley Elementary School there and R.D.H.S. at Elgin before completing a Television Production course at Belleville's Loyalist College.
