._._ ï¬..-,._.v '. 12 NORTH LEEDS LANTERN SEELEY'S BAY U.C.W. Myrtle Simpsonwelcomed us all to the June meeting, as usual in the C.E. room at8p.m. Cathie DeGraff took the devotional for all of us. Business â€" Secretary's minutes and treasurer's report were read and approved. Members are asked to supply 300 "squares" for a special event for July 2. We were reminded that our usual July 30, food sale is cancelled, as we are catering to a wedding reception that day. A good deal of discussion took place concerning plans and events in the future, especially needed at this time because we close our meetings for July and August. Program - Our special program this month was on "India" presented by Mrs. Turner who recently spent 4 months travelling. it is impossible (at least for me) to try to give a report of her presentation of India. Her picture told the story so well, along with her own story. It was new information to many of us, as she drescribed the people, their life as compared to ours, the gardens, pasture for cattle, where there is almost no rain (no rain there for past 3 years), and their ways of coping with daily living. It was so interesting and worth while that we were pleased to welcome several members from Lyndhurst and Oliver U.(‘,.W. to share our evening. Our President Dorothy Heys prt-sentrl Mrs. Turner with a Seeley‘s Bay Church plate and coffee mug. Mrs. Turner remarked that she always tried to have a plate from each place she has served. A social time followed. See everyone at September meeting. No meeting July and August - summer holidays. SEELEY'S BAY SENIORS The June meeting opened with the Lord's Prayer with the president, Freda Tempest, presiding. Minutes of previous meeting approved as read, and the treasurer's report adopted. Thanks was expressed to Orvin Martin for his excellent planning for the 'Moonwalk’. Led by the antique fire truck from Seeley's Bay Fire Dept. we walked 143.4 km. We did well this year and will do better next year. Plans were made for the Zone Rally in Brockville on June 15th. We will go by bus and are asked to provide sandwiches and Squares. The gift of two plastic tablecloths from Jean Rogers is much appreciated. Happy birthday was sung and best wishes to those having birthdays this month. Jean Rogers read of the early days in our village and Linda Horsey gave her response to the question "What is a Senior? " Social time enjoyed with cards and rummy.
