(as, a: < PHILIPSVILLE WOMEN'S INSTITUTE The Philipsville Women's Institute held their meeting on Thursday, November 10 at 7:30 p.m. With the "Ode" and "Mary Stewart Collect“, the meeting opened with the President Leorene Hayes welcoming the visitors. Salute to agriculture and 4â€"H, we had Cindy French and Katie Bond as the two speakers. Diana Haskin outlined the 4â€"H club, it started in Manitoba in 1913, first one in Leeds was 1923, at Brockville it was called a pig club, because someone gave them two pigs to raise. The profit from their sale supported the club. The girls told of projects they have done, and displayed the awards they had received, after which they had a question and answer period, then they served meat balls they had prepared. Sylvia Graham was hostess for this meeting. She helped serve the lunch. Some important dates coming up for next year. The area convention is Saturday, October 21, 1989 to be held in Lion's Club, Elgin, Ontario. The district annual is in Chaffey's Lock, Saturday, May 13th. We are asked for ideas for entertainment. The executive meeting is March 20, 1989 at Philipsville. Our Christmas party is December 8th, dessert party, with dessert from another country. Hall on Monday, November 7, 1988. Thea Dodge district President opened the meeting. Minutes were read by Laurel Fleming, a report from area conventions was given by Mary Warren. Zone resolution passed that 4â€"H club members may join at the age of 10 years. Every branch is asked for ideas for a program for the area convention, also to nominate a lst VicePresident and a 2nd Vice President and program co-ordinator for executive meeting on March 20, 1989 at Philipsville. It was moved that two women from each branch attend a council meeting in regards to waste management. Thea closed the meeting, and Chaffey's Lock provided the lunch. OEHPREHKZH BUSIGifliDIHIS On Thursday, November 3rd, the Outreach Neighbours held their dinner for the seniors with 82 attending. They sat down to a turkey dinner and all the trimmings. Anna said grace, Mary introduced the guest speaker HARLEM-CHANTRY U.C.W. Harlem-Chantry U.C.W. met at Mill Bay Court, Portland on Tuesday, November 1 with Marjorie Emmons as hostess. Jean Sheffield President for the month welcomed the members and guests; thanked the hostess and opened the meeting with a poem "Vision". Marion Seeley conducted the worship service, "Medals and Models". She also showed a film on Africa, "Forget A not our sisters. " Roll call was answered by 11 members and 5 guests ‘ with a favourite bible verse. Twenty one hospital and 18 home calls were made and 15 books were read. Minues, correspondence and business were dealt with. $1,000 to be sent to mission and service. The meeting closed with benediction, a social hour and refreshments were enjoyed by all. The program committee met at the home of Edna Gile on November 10 to prepare the 1989 meetings. The next meeting will be Tuesday, December 6 at 1:30 p.m. at the home of Pat Cassidy. NORTH LEEDS LANTERN 5 Mystery Object at the Delta Mill Dr. Paul Fritz is shown holding the mystery object which was on display all summer. A large number of guetses were made but with no correct answers. The device actually was used to hold axes or Chisels while they were being sharpened. We are hoping to have a new Mystery Object in the Mill next summer and prize money not paid out this year will once again be offered. Julia Scotland of Petal and Presents, an interesting talk and demonstrations of making and arranging, this was enjoyed by all. The next dinner is lst on Thursday for the seniors.
