are slowly advancing towards their team goals and in their league standing. With two tournaments remaining the team is looking forward to a possible trip to the L.G.S.S.A.A. championship on November 17, 1988. There are six "A" competing in the Senior Volleyball league. Rideau's seniors are presently in a solid second place â€" close behind Athens. Thanks to superior coaching by Jeff Rice our boys have learned to combine their skills and positive attitudes into one winning unit. If this chemistry and momentum continue Rideau will be a schools Boys’ strong contender in the L.G.S.S.A.A. in mid November. Marie Early a graduate of Rideau District High school and a graduate of the University of Waterloo in Kinesiology, has been accepted into a Doctoral Program at the University of Otego, Dunedin, New Zealand. She will be studying Down's Syndrome. Wendy Purdy has contributed the following. The music program at Rideau is off to a busy start. The concert band practices on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m., choir Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., and stage band on Monday nights 7 â€" 9 p.m. All three are gearing up for the first performance at Rideau Crafts on November 26. The Junior Girls’ Basketball team posted two more victories on the road defeating Athens 62â€"37 and Gananoque 54â€"16. This gives them a record of eight wins, zero losses. At Gananoque, nine players hit the scoresheet with Mary Ellen Pattinson and patti Knapp scoring with eleven and ten points respectively. Becky Mainse added nine, Nicole Mullins eight, Angie Code six, Buffy Gering four, while Michelle Adams and Tanya Shaw chipped in two each. Rideau has two league games left on the regular season. On Tuesday, November 7, Rideau hosts Sharbot Lake in the Lion's The senior Den. game should get underway at 2:00 p.m. with the juniors to follow at 3:30 p.m. The public, as always, is invited to attend. Rideau’s intramural homeform organized a Jello eating contest at noon on October 31. They write as follows: The Jello Eating Extravaganza had a miraculous turn out with the well practiced participants pursuing their pastime of inhaling Jello. Now for the particulars: In Year 1 Sean Veley and Jennifer Duncan won the Gold for the Gold House due to their voracious vacuuming power, as well in Year 2, Gold House's 1--.. . _ . . . . -u. ..L ¢..--- A. ‘ 4 \ , O -“""“‘“""“l|lllhlolblliiilI'luabalsaijoboah_¢l‘jnr(‘g.v.&.-§ Burt and Reggie showed their true colours by leaving their opponents breathless. In Year 3 Cheryl Angement and D. J. Adams blew by their Jennifer McGregor contenders thanks to their sensational slurping abilities. In Year 4 once again Blue came out on top because of Jim Redmond’s incredible technique and Lisa MacDougall's exciting flow through. To sum it up Intramural homeform gives thanks to all the active participants and the wild spectators. The department heads at Rideau are in the process of looking at the school’s program in light of the new curriculum and changing university requirements. Despite persistent rumour to the contrary there is absolutely no intention of closing the school or cancelling the grade 13 (OAC) program. But demands are changing and the school intends to meet the demands. For example, the University of Toronto will no longer accept three grade 13 maths for admission to a math or science program. For such a program students must take calculus and algebra but the third mathematics will not be counted. Some other universities are leaning in that direction and some are not. There remains, of course, the rule that students cannot count more than one of such grade 13 subjects as Family Studies, Economics, Politics, Accounting, Physical Education, etc. All of this needs to be considered when the school makes certain that the program continues to offer students at Rideau the opportunity to qualify for almost every university course. The school has done so in the past and will continue to do so in the future. Wednesday, October 26, the senior boy's volleyball team played in a tournament at Grenville Christain College. They were defeated by two points in each of two games against Athens. They won one and lost one against Grenville Christain College and also against North Grenville. Thursday the 27, the team travelled to Perth for an exhibition tournament. Rideau defeated Perth by winning the best three out of five games. The enthusiasm for basketball has been growing at Rideau and with that growth has come the desire to have the best equipment. In March of this year a group of basketball players agreed that Rideau needed new glass backboards and that they were capable of raising the money to purchase them. Each player made a commitment to raise one hundred dollars. In the ensuing months, some players returned with the hundred dollars in a single ' v v NORTH LEEDS LANTERN 23 payment, others contributed as they raised ten dollars baCRboards. began: By here, twenty dollars there Thursday installation was and the fund grew.
