YOUR COUNCIL AT WORK - BASTARD AND SOUTH BURGESS The Challenge of Change was the theme of the O.G.R.A. Conference this year â€" and what an appropriate topic for the times! Those of us who attended came home with a wealth of ideas ‘and information. There ,were explanations of and updates on many issues resulting in more work for Council as some policies must be revised, and some new ones written and implemented. As representatives we Were made aware of many facets of problems as we listened to preSentations ranging from "The Tax Revolt" to the "Round Table [)i s c u.s s i o n o n Transportation and the Environment". As Councillors in a rural municipality, we must ever ‘be alert to decisions made which do n(3t t.al<e 011r circumstances into consideration. All agreed this was a most v a 1 u a b l e a n d informative session. The Fire- Chief reported that a detailed questionnaire will be mailed to every resident of the municipalityrequesting information re: the loCation and structure of each building on his/her property. The Fire Department of Bastard and South Burgess is embarking on a project to make it easier to locate properties‘ in the Township. This will assist the Fire Department as well as Police, Ambulance and general public. They will be putting together a road and house numbering system. Each house or property will receive a. number and each road will be numbered. your questionnaire and be sure to complete and .EQLEEQ- The L.A.C.A.C. has been hard at work on the project of a walking tour of Delta. The brochures are ready- for printing and hopefully will be available at the Maple Syrup Festival. A reminder - the annual fall walking tour will be in Portland this year on September 13 (rain date, 20th). The Bicentennial Committee has been appointed with Phyllis Tackaberry, Judy Rogers, Diane Haskin, and Myrla Saunders as members at large and Howard French and Anna Greenhorn as C o u n c i l representatives. Council has been 'very pleased with the responses received from the advertisement for members for the C o m m i t t e e o f Adjustment. We thank all those who responded for their interest. The appointments will be made within the next two months. For those of you living closer to the Smiths Falls area, as of April 26th. the Via Rail Train leaving Ottawa at 6:00 A.M. will stop in Smiths Falls. Your Council was one of those that supported this request. Dlle t,o t11e increasingly long agendas and the amount of special meetings needed 'to address all the business, concerns and projects in the municipality, it was necessary to refine our rules re: delegations. Yes, you are welcome, yes, you are encouraged to attend Council meetings. However, if you wish to be on the agenda, please note the following resolution "Persons ,desiring to present information or make a request of Council, shall give notice to the Clerk, not later than the Wednesday prior to the meeting of Council. The presentation must be in writing and a copy delivered to the Clerk, for enclosure with the agenda of that meeting. The deputation shall be limited in speaking to not more than fifteen (15) minutes except that a delegation consisting of more than five (5) persons shall be limited to two (2) speakers each limited to speaking not more than ten (10) minutes."
