'UCW Conference .Souder of St. WOMEN OF THE BIBLE WOMEN OF TODAY In spite of threatened winter storm, 95 brave ladies turned out and were warmly received by women of St. Paul's United Church in. Harrowsmith on Saturday February 15 at the 30th Annual Meeting of Kingston Presbyterial UCW. Moscow Unit registered those attending and direcâ€" ted them to a table of muffins and hot coffee, The session began on a joyful note with the help of Margaret McKendry who brings out the best in voices as she leads and plays piano. Presbyterial Norma Guthrie chaired the event and began with a word of welcome to all. President She called upon others to add their thoughts and good wishes. Mary Howes, President of Conference UCW has spent much time travelling to meetings over the year and was happy to attend this meeting in her home territory. She offered words of encouragement to the women and mentioned many areas in which they might participate â€" "Plant a Tree in Africa, Nestle Boyscott, Korean Prayer Ribbons, Kenyaâ€"Canadian Exchange, Guardian Angels (knitting program) and Oxfam". The World Day of Prayer services held since 1887 will take place in many churches on Friday March 6 and the Annual will meet at Cambridge United on April 7 and 8. On behalf of the host church, Erma Bracken and the Reverend. Gordon Merkley extended their wishes for a good day. Jean Beers, President of Sydenham Section gave greetings and Mrs. Guthrie acknowledged the presence of Norma Soble ofV Belleâ€" ville Presbyterial and the Reverend Miriam stroud, Chairperson of Kingston Presbytery. Morning worship service by Riverside/Yarker's Sarah wigmore and Coralyn Lawlor was based on the day's theme “Women of the Bible, Women of Today â€" Count Me In" as they centred upon Christian stewardship and tithing. In Bible times even the spoils of war were tithed. Are »we blessed with a good voice or brain or nimble fingers? God lays claim to our gift through need. Money represents time, our work, our brain. We do what we can with our gifts in Christian stewardship. The offering was collected by Morven members and dedicated. The new officers for 1992 were installed by Wendy Rennie of Athens. Guest speaker Susan Cole, Beverly John's United, Brockville, is Staff Associate in street Church. She introduced by up in Ottawa and was in- volved in church at an early age. she is also Christian Dev. Coâ€"Ordinaâ€" tor and President of Brockâ€" ville Section. Reflecting upon the topic she talked of the wonderful era which began in the church in 1962 with the start of UCW. Listerners were to think back to that time and what they were doing. Helen Moffatt president of WMS and others commented that WA and WMS were brought together with considerable a past reservation. Susan told the stories of two women and their journeys. The first was to a perfect place, a paradise (Eve), the second was a move to a strange land where adapting to Change was difficult (Ruth). These women of Bible times lost everyting and had to adâ€" just. Women of today can identify with them and be made stronger by example. Mrs. Guthrie thanked the speaker for her message.
