(Willis Wharf). - Inform Township of Augusta we are unable to accept waste material from outside the municipality. â€" Request Fire Chief Paul Ostrom to meet w j. t 11 R c: a.d Superintendent and County Engineer, to make arrangements for fire access to load water, at Bullard’s Bridge and Bonger's Bridge. - Authorized the Clerkâ€" Treasurer to contact our Solicitor in regards to property being placed in Tax Sale. - Executed an Agreement amending our lease for the Government Dock, Portland. â€" Invested the Clergy Reserve Fund for a one year term. - Authorized the Clerk- Treasurer to make application for a W.M.I.P. The Public Bastard and South Burgess Fire Department Fire Prevention October 6 - 12th 1991 was Fire Prevention Week. The theme for this years Fire Prevention was "Fire Won’t Wait“ - ~ Plan Your Escape. The students from Beverley Elementary and Rideau Centennial Schools took part by doing Fire Drills and a Poster Contest. Chief Fire Prevention Officer Harold Walker and Fire Prevention Officer June Burtch showed a film "Know Thy Exit" and spoke with the students of Rideau Centennial on fire prevention. FPO June Burtch and Firefighter Mark Atsbury showed the film and spoke with the students of Beverley Elementary. The Kindergarten classes from both schools enjoyed a trip to both fire stations. They watched a video "Fire Prevention Everyone Everyday". Poster Contest Winners from Beverley are: Grade 1 - Melanie Leith, Grade 2 - Tina Roy, Grade 3 - Jessica Verhoeven, Grade 4 - Cahl Gerow, Grade 5 â€" Brandi Rae Burnham, Grade 6 â€" Steve Martell, Grade 7 â€" Carrie Leith, Grade 8 - Robert Coon. Winners from Rideau Centennial are: Grade 1 â€" Jessica Long, Grade 2 - Jason Hutchings, Grade 3 â€" Michael Dwyer, Grade 4 - Mathew Meyer, Grade 5 - Derek Dunfield, Grade 6 â€" Melissa Birtch, Grade 7 â€" Tim Turnbull, Grade 8 â€" Morgan Thomas. Each student received a Smoke Detector and a DECEMBER 1991 NORTH LEEDS LANTERN 7 certificate for winning. We would like to thank the students for doing these posters as it shows us how much they really know about fires and how to prevent them and to plan an escape route. CFPO Harold Walker FPO June Burtch HARLEM-CHANTRY UCW Marjorie Emmons was hostess for Harlemâ€"Chantry UCW meeting at Mill Bay Court in Portand Tuesday, November 5 with 10 members and 2 guests answering the roll call with a verse on the theme "Peace". Edna Gile, President for the month welcomed the members and guests: thanked the hostess and opened the meeting with Hymn "Dear Lord and Father of Mankind". Clara Townsend conducted the worship service "Christ Our Peace, Building a Just Society", ass15ted by Marjorie Emmons with scripture readings. Hymns, "Peace, Perfect Peace" and "O God of Love, 0 King of Peace" were sung. Seventeen home and 20 home calls were made and 9 books were read. Jean Sheffield gave a paper, combining Peace and Stewardship. Minutes, correspondence and business were dealt with. Money paid to the project and members were reminded of their assignments for the next meeting. Meeting closed with benediction and a social hour followed.
