20 ‘9’ Rideau Lakes Horticultural Society At the November meeting Jennifer Bennett of Harrowsmith Magazine gave an interesting talk on Annuals. Her slide presentation demonstrated the beautiful effects which can be achieved throughout the summer with annual planting. Not all of these have to be started indoors; and some like poppies can be spread on the snow and bloom throughout the summer into late fall. As this was our Annual Meeting, the Retiring President, Karen Earl, outlined some of the activities of the Society over the past year. Speakers covered a wide variety of topics from Fruit Tree Selection to Flower Arrangements, Herbs, Bulbs and Annuals. The Society has contributed to local communities in providing public plantings locations, supplied in seven designed and information for the Westport Harbour Committee, supplied judges for the Westport Chamber of Commerce garden competitions, and supported a very active Youth Program involving three schools with shows/displays being held at the schools. In addition to the above, Spring and Fall Plant Swaps were held and a bus trip to the Montreal landscaping Botanical Gardens was well attended. The 1992 Exectuive for the Rideau Lakes Horticultural Society will be: President, Wendy Briggsâ€" Jude; lst Vice President, Alex Lynch; 2nd vice President, Lindsay Seaman; Secretary, Clara Hull; Treasurer, Elsie Lynch. Ten Directors were appointed to the Board; Dorothy Cassell, Les Cozens, Leorene Hayes, Pauline Hockey, Shirley Horsfall, Valerie Kennett, Ken Kentziger, Lorne Marcellus, Shirley Marcellus, and Lois Mowat.
