12 an; M B a y/‘V‘ SEELEY'S BAY UCW In the absence of the president of the Seeley's Bay UCW, Freda Davies presided for the November meeting. We were welcomed by Myrtle Simpson. Kathy deGraff gave a timely worship service on Remembrance Day, illustrating the meaning from the letters of the 'poppy' â€" praise, offering, peace, prayer and you. The thankoffering was received and dedicated. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved and the treasurer's report received. A thankâ€"you letter from Gladys in appreciation for the support received for her art exhibit. Thanks from Dawn House for contributions with a request for further aid. Also request from Ryndale House and it was decided to bring paper products, etc., to our next meeting and give a donation. Freda read the report from Kingston Presbyterial Executive meeting for the many requests for monetary help and also reminded us of the peace ribbons to be made for Korea. The New Resource Centre, 30 Colborne Street, Kingston, is now open. There was a short discussion re helping with curtains for the Sunday School rooms â€" a decision will be made at a later date. A card was signed by all to be sent to Millie, presently out west. Remember the cookie exchange for the December meeting. It was suggested that programs and plans for next year be finalized at our January meeting â€" bring your ideas! A humorous skit was presented by Freda and Joyce to illustrate that even preparing the potatoes, etc. for dinner, if done in the right spirit, is an offering. A social time was enjoyed as Myrtle and Mary served refreshments. Mary Davies NORTH LEEDS LANTERN DECEMBER 1991 SEELEY'S BAY SENIORS There were 25 members and 3 guests at the November business meeting of Seeley's Bay Seniors. President, June Goodwins welcomed everyone and asked all to sing O Canada, followed by Happy Birthday to Jean Rogers, Doung Montgomery and Keith Perry. Then Happy 50th Anniversary was sung to Gladys and Howard McConnell. Secretary, Shirley Martin read the minutes of the last meeting, followed by the Treasurer's report. June reminded everyone of the Seniors Lunch at the Carriage House every 3rd Monday and the Zone Meeting at Seeley's Bay November 18th at 1:30 p.m. Plans were made about what to serve. We are invited to the Christmas Dinner at the Legion at 12:30 on December 14th, each member of the seniors to bring a dessert. shirley Martin announced that we made $70.00 at our Bake Table at the Legion Craft Sale and the Legion Food Drive was a decided success. The meeting closed with the Mizpah Benediction, followed by a delicious lunch, games and cards. Freda Tempest ST. PETERS ACW SEELEY'S BAY Our November ACW meeting was held at the home of Betty Sly on Tuesday, November 12, 1991. Our meeting opened with the scripture readings. A discussion on the scriptures followed. Roll call showed 8 members present and 1 Visitor. Treasurer's report followed. A discussion followed on ways to improve our Smorgasborg Supper another year. We also talked about the â€SAIL" programme for Seniors. Next to New Shop to be held at St. Luke's Hall Lyndhurst on November 29 & 30. Our Christmas meeting will be at the home of Margaret Ann Perry on December 3, 1991. We are having a Pot Luck Dinner at 6:30 followed by our meeting. Some monies also go toward prizes to Joyceville and Holy Name Schools whose children , participate in a poster and literature contest based on the November 11th Remembrance Day and its meaning to all free people. Our Legion held its Church parade Sunday, November 10, marching to the Seeley's Bay United Church led by the RMC Pipe Band and followed by the Brownies and Scouts. Once again Rev. Daryl Bell gave a memorable service. All returned to the Legion Hall after for free food and refreshment supplied by our _ -4 capable ‘Ladies Auxiliary. Gill Lesage and myself had the honour of attending Mass at Holy Name School conducted by Father McGarvey a World War II Veteran. We congratulated the Principal, Mr. Colter and staff for the way his children conducted themselves in assisting Father McGarvey with the Mass, not forgetting to mention the lovely voices of the choir. We would also like to thank those in our area who contributed privately: Mr. Joe Turner; Bank of Toronto, Mr. Hubert Tackaberry Gravel; Sweets' Seeley's Bay; Gordanier; Store; Lorne Chapman Bldg. Gill Lesage and Russ Stapleton Poppy Chairmen On October 26, Seeley's Bay Legion sponsored a "Food Blitz" in support of the Gananoque Food Bank. Tons of canned foods partially filling a van along with $705.00 in cash was collected by the volunteers. The Legion thanks all who donated and a round of applause to Legion organizer Orvin Martin who was ably assisted by Dale Goodfriend and Shane Woods. November 10 was a beautiful day and the Branch Vets and friends turned out en~ masse. Royal Military College Pipe Major, Dave Hjalmarson; officer Cadets Nat Ng, Hugh Higgins, Keven Buchanan and Brian Crothers led the way as Veterans, Ladies Auxiliary, Lions Club, Brownies, Cubs and Scouts marched smartly to the United Church where Branch Padre, Daryl Bell conducted a fine service which just plain made everyone pray that we have seen the last of war. On the march back to the Legion Hall the salute was taken by Charter Member and Past President, Willie Mitchell and Past President, Don Charboneau. A special thanks to the Seeley's Bay Fire Department for marshalling the parade route, November 11, service was held inside the Legion Hall due to freezing rain. An excellent turnout witnessed the laying of wreaths in the following order: Provincial Wreath â€" Deputy Reeve, Bruce Bryan: Representing the Silver Cross Mdther â€" Elsie Willoughby; Branch 491 Wreath â€" 2nd Vice President“. A Wreath in memory of her husband Fred Hall â€" Peggy Hall. Padre Daryl Bell red the Act of Remembrance. For the Saturday, December 14, Ladies Auxiliary and Senior Citizens Christmas Dinner, I hinted to the seniors about a dessert table. Now I am hoping that they will once again treat us to a medley of Christmas Carols. Congrats to Conrade, Duncan McLaren who won the $15.00 Earlybird Incentive Award for October. Get your dues in there now for the November draw. Joan and I are heading south again this year and we wish you one and all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
